OK ALL YOU JEEP PROS I NEED SOME HELP I HAVE AN 81 HONCHO I AM BUILDING IT HAS A 360 THAT I GET BACK MONDAY IN WHICH I HAD IT PUNCHED 30 OVER HAD THE CRANK TURNED AND THROWING IN AN ENTIRE REBUILD KIT INCLUDING A ELDERBROCK INTAKE AND 600 HOLLEY. IT HAS THE 727 TRANNY BUT OTHER THAN THAT I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT ELSE I HAVE UNDER THERE CAN ANY ONE OUT THERE HELP ME I NEED TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF X CASE BOTH REAR AND FRONT ENDS AND IF I NEED TO TRY AND CHANGE ANYTHING UNDER AND WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO GO. I WILL BE DRIVING THE TRUCK AROUND TOWN AND HOPFULLY BEING ABLE TO HOOK UP WITH SOME OF THE OHIO BOYS FOR SOME FUN IN HASPIN OR IN MY OLD STOMPING GROUNDS DOWN IN BUTLER COUNTY THANKS IN ADVANCE

Well, first-things-first, if this motor is from a '79 or earlier FSJ, and was orginally mated to a TH400 transmission, then it will have a spacer sleeve in the pilot hole for the torque-converter snout. If you don't remove it, the converter will not bolt up properly, and when you bolt the engine to the tranny, you will destroy the TF727's front pump.

As for transfer-case, you probably have an NP208 if you have locking front-hubs. Slide under the truck with a rag and a flashlight, and see what numbers are listed on the round tag on the back of the transfer case.

As for axles, you have a Dana 44 front and an AMC Model 20 rear axle. All those parts will serve you perfectly well.
