just talked to aussie lockers tech guru... he said that a front aussie would be just fine in my q-trac, d44 front/rear rig....

if i installed a set of warn premiums...

this sounds right to me cause the AWD/fulltime system would be bypassed...

any opinions or previous threads that can confirm this?

thanks

OK, if you want to run manual lock-outs on the front of a QT equipped rig, you MUST make sure your center diff locks when you put it in E-drive. If it doesn't, and you unlock the hubs, the clutch cones will eat themselves up in a very short amount of time. Some people have done this and welded the front diff or put a spool in the front. It does work, you just have to make sure the E-drive works.

I don't think it's a great idea. If for some reason the 4X4 slips out...there goes your t-case. As I remember there is only a very small amount of splines engaged in E-drive. Just put one in the rear and leave the front open for now.

yeah, do the rear axle before you do the front.

If the vacuum diaphragm, hoses, and switch all work, and you know it shifts like it should, then it should be alright. I've never had a problem with mine slipping out of gear once locked. The only problem it has ever given me is the switch crapped out on me, and I had to switch hoses under the hood to get it to lock in and out. I think Jode on here has put a mini spool in the front of his Wag with a set of manual lock-outs, and still has the full-time QT with no problems. War Wagon runs a set of manual lock outs with a full time QT, and hasn't had any problems. A lot of people lock it in E-drive and pull the front shaft when they have problems.

If you want a front locker with a QT, get a part time kit. Otherwise stick with selectable lockers. Even a rear locker is hard on the cones. Not nearly as much so as the front owuld be (ie: unable to turn), but still puts more stress on them.

Like Stuka states, go with the rear locker, I am running the Aussie in the rear of my full time QT and am only now looking into a 'TruTrac' limited slip for the front. I am keeping the full time QT so this is why the limited slip.
You will love the locker in the rear, a huge difference over open all around.
Start with the rear...

ok...lol..im very glad i brought it up, cause he was very positive that there would be "no issueS" whatsoever...i don't think i, personally, will trust an already touchy 4x4 system to whether or not a "vacuum" system is working on a 20yr old truck...gives me the willies...no locker for me...

thanks all
