Couldn't think of a question to help get the new category going so I'll tell ya what I spent my winter (and spring, so far) on.

October: bought a $200 '79 Wag. Bone stock, non-running, TH400, Quadra-Trac. Figured to get her running and turn some Jeepin' funds.
Later Oct.: Sold my CJ wheeler
November: Got paranoid about not having a wheeler for spring. Only thing in my garage is a turd of a '79 Wag. hmmmmmm?
Got it running and yanked the axles immediately and trade them straight up for a Dana 60 and 44 (full size).
Dropped the rear springs, spring-over in the front. Tossed in the new axles. Shaker high steer arms...had a machinist buddy mill and drill some flat tops. Another buddy had some 5.89 44 gears for free. Found some 60 5.89's on Ebay cheap...welded the rear, bought a brand new 44 Lock Right for $150 from a buddy (going 60 next winter, no need to splurge!)...gears are in. Found some old school 37" TSL's (Thanks Bigchief). Near new 8 lug steelies for $100. Wheels and tires are on (after the quarters and fenders got in a fight with the Sawzall...the saw won).
Had a rebuilt 727 laying under the bench...that's in...glad I had the correct linkage in the parts pile (interesting tidbit: the crossmember had to be moved forward and the holes were already in the frame! I suspect that was the location for a four speed at the time).
Another buddy ponied up a 300 case (I have good friends!). Started lining up drive shafts under it and realized the gas tank for a Quadra-Trac SJ is too wide for a centered shaft :( Fabbed the existing mounts and pan to accept an 80's tank (until I get my cell). Shortened some drive shafts I had laying around. It moves!
Looked at the Rhino on my daily driver and was positive it would set the tone for the wheeler! Now it looks tough. Started talking to my buddies that own the tubing bender....figured the cage would go in much easier without the roof...SAWZALL TIME! Took the gate and front doors too.
Recycled part of the roof...it's now a front floor pan; amazing how well it fit.
Bent up a stout cage...no rear seat so it's based around the front cockpit only.
I'll be setting my rear disks up next week. Much more to do with bobbing it, etc.

This weekend, however, I GET TO WHEEL IT! Maiden voyage is finally on the horizon! I'll likley find 10 things I don't like and create more work....but that's what it's all about.

I did mine in my 20x26 garage! You don't need too much room! My slab is poured for the 20' addition though. Don't HAVE to have it, but I want it!

I love it man. Get pics this weekend. BTW, you might want to think about adding an extention to the cage that goes to the back cuz you don't want to crush your rear in a rollover. Other than that, everything looks freaken awesome

Yeah, you've got a point about protecting the rear. It'll crush for sure if I roll towards a corner. I plan to add to the cage later. I plan to wheel it once or twice first, then cut up the rear some more. At that point, I'll finalize the rest of the cage. My buddy's idea was to tube the rear along the inside of the bed rails, then turn it up and into the existing cage.....sorta like a really big Subaru Brat. Not sure about that one; we'll see what's left on Monday when I return smile.gif

Thanks for the good words guys.......

Dude, that is one sweet jeep. I think you and Andrew (rockjeep44) get my votes for coolest jeeps I've seen (form and function). I want to see those pics when you get back tomorrow! I hope your list of things to change isn't too long after her maiden voyage ;)

Broke the motor almost immediatley!! I knew it was going south soon, but I hoped to get a few runs out of her. I did take it through the rock garden and up a twisty ravine, just to see how it moves. Works well! Very flexy and I dig the 5.89's. Now I just need to find a motor in the next three weeks (before Mem. Day!). I didn't get any new pics other than one of it sitting. At least it's in the grass instead of the drive this time.....getting closer!

If someone has a 360 within a reasonable distance to Iowa, let me know. Thanks!

Can't make it out east this year. Although, I would like to get out there at some point. Our clubs simply have too much going on this summer. We have a big run for Memorial Day (miobi.org in my sig). We're also about to get legislation passed that will allow for a state sponsored full size off-road park plan. With that, I'm promoting local events this year. Hopefully the sticker program will begin to raise enough funds to buy public land and run the program!!

By the way, if anyone can't make it out east and wants some good wheeling in Iowa over Memorial weekend, look for the details on www.miobi.org (http://www.miobi.org)
or contact me @ nxcj@hotmail.com

There are usually upwards of 100 trucks that show up. Band, hogroasts, camping, wheeling, etc.

I've decided to run a 258 until I can decide on a new V8 for the Wag. With my 5.89's I shouldn't have a problem!
