Hello everybody,
it is great to see such a wonderful resource available! I am normaly out of Pavementsucks.com, but there aren't too many Jeep people that know the info about these fullsize Jeeps. I was referred to ifsja.org by some of the other memebers and glad I signed up!

Let me get on with my project...

First, my project Jeep isn't a fullsize Jeep but an XJ! However, I have Waggy D44s I am going to slap under it! I need info on the type of Waggy based on the axles I have. In trying to order parts, I don't know what to tell the parts guys in order to get the right stuff.

The front Waggy D44 has the drivers side drop and manual lockouts. The rear is a centered D44, not the more common AMC 20 or off-centered D44 that I see all the time. They both have the common 6lug pattern but are from two different Waggys.

Lots of my Jeep friend talk about most of the D44 stuff being interchangeable, but I know ball joints are differen't between differe 44s sometimes. From the above info on the axles, can you give me a good idea of what modelor years Waggys these came off of? I have a few other questions but this post is long enough! LOL smile.gif

As far as I know all the ball joints were the same on the D44. Your front axle being drivers side drop would be 80 and up. the centered rear is 86 and up

If the manual hubs are stock the front D44's from an 80-87 that came with a 208 x-case. If the bubs aren't stock it could be from 80-91. The centered rear D44 as Pete said above would be from a late 86 up to 91(AMC20's were used between 80-late 86). All 80+ front axles are drivers side pumpkin and centered rear diff. Strandard gearing in all the above was 2.73's with 3.31's as optional.
I don't know if Dana still did it on the later axles but in the early days there was a axle build date stamped into the ring gear.

Didn't some of the pre '74 wags have a centered rear Dana 44 when it came with a D20 T/case??
