hey folks. i know there are a few guys here running big block chevy's. I need to know how you made it clear the heater and brake booster.
i was thinking of going to hydroboost brakes, but here's my question... i have a HB unit from an 80's chevy one ton truck. both the steering and brakes are on the HB system... so can I use the j-20 steering box and port it for hydro assist? I want to use a "Redneck Ram" from west texas off-road, but need to know what steering box to run first...

I have never needed body lift to get a BBC in an FSJ. Its CLOSE!!! but it makes it. It will even clear the brake booster, but the HB unit is so much better. I would remove the heater box for the install of the BBC first then put it back in. You may or may not have trouble with the HB Unit from the 1 ton Chevy. The Caddy units are basically a bolt in. I have two HB Units, one from a Caddy and one from a 80 K3500. The pushrod that goes to the pedal is a LOT shorter on the 1 ton Unit. I am sure it can be made to work, just a heads up on that department.

cool, thanks. i suppose i could lengthen the rod? i want to avoid a body lift if at all possible... I am going to replace everything with urethane bushing though...
what about plumbing the steering box into the hb? i'm assuming that it has to be hooked into the steering pump to get boost, right? can I hook it to a J-20 box? i'm not real familiar with hb, so bear with me...
