I am installing new front rotors and I am trying to put the lugs into the hub assembly through the new rotor but they don't seem to go in all the way and there is a lot of play between the hub assembly and the rotor, is this normal, will they tighten up once the wheels are in or do I have to get that to be as tight as possible? If so, how do I do that?
Thanks!

There is play between the hub assembly and the rotor??? These are one unit. Or did you mean the spindle assembly and the rotor assembly??? That would be a problem. You need to tighten the bearing retainer nuts.
To do this, first make sure the retaining pin on the inner locknut is facing away from the bearings. Then tighten it to 50ft/lb., loosen and retighten to 35 ft/lb., then back off 1/3rd turn, all while rotating the wheel.

You may have to have the new studs pressed in. If they are not in all the way and you go driving, they could loosen the wheel when they are pulled through.

Actually he's talking about the rotors to the hubs, contrary to popular belief it is 2 pieces pressed together... Take them to your local garage and have them pressed on...

yup the rotor does come off the hub. I just drive the studs in with a drift and hammer, but pressing them in would be the correct procedure.

Yes, I understand the rotor comes off of the hub!! Normally, you don't just get one without the other!! They are sold as a unit AFAIK. Thus , my question was to clarify that he actually meant that, or, as is more likely, the whole assembly was not tight on the spindle!!!!!

JG, I wasn't trying to come off like that... Everyones so tense smile.gif and yes, I've seen occasions when they came together, but in his earlier thread he was talking about getting them apart(the hub and rotor) and that's the only reason I knew what he meant...

I don't know, I always just get the rotor, its a lot cheaper than getting the Hub and Rotor.
