What’s the best sawsall for cutting fenders, flares and other stuff on an fsj and why?

I want to buy one and currently have all Skil power tools including their auto scroll jigsaw. I wonder how well my jigsaw would perform, anybody ever use them on your fsj?

Never used a jigsaw on a FSJ. Don't see why it wouldn't work if you took your time.

I do know that a Sawzall will cut a FSJ into tiny little pieces. I disposed of a 77 4 door Cherokee that way. Cut it up frame and all...put it into the curbside recycling bins. Took me about 3 weeks to get rid of it. :D '

Hey Steve, I have an older Makita. I'm not thrilled with it, but that's because I need a allen wrench to switch blades. The newer ones have a quick release type mechanism to switch blades. If I got one now I'd get a 18V Dewalt battery powered saw.

I used a Sears Industrial sawsall on my choptop and other projects. Zips right through anything I put in front of it, just be sure and use the high quality blades, they are much better and cheaper in the long run than the cheapies.

My dad has a larger 10+ amp (iirc) Porter Cable one, and i have an 18v Dewalt one and both do the job quite nicely. I prefer the blade release on the Dewalt, but the Porter Cable has the advantage of not having to deal with batteries.... Both are great though!

cord Sawzall...Porter Cable (don't bother with cordless)
Cord Drills.....Milwaukee
Cordless drill.......Dewalt

....if ya want to use 'em often and have 'em last a long time

But if I want to trim fenders I just use a cut off wheel, sawzall can not turn where I want, angle grinder is too big.
I did my front fenders in about 3 min each.
The rear were about a hour for both inner and outer walls.

How much?</font>[/QUOTE]Oh yeah... I can understand how you would want to have such a fine item as a '77 "Z" code Cherokee VIN tag in your "collection". What ya got to trade? :D

I prefer Porter cables saw having said that so did someone else and stole it! I now am stuck with a dewalt that if you don't smack the handel hard won't shut off all the way

I use a 9 amp dewalt sawzall. does everything I need. zips right through hardened 1/4" lock bails, and works even better on normal (soft) metal. actually more useful than the plasma cutter...

Milwaukee is the longest lasting. plus you can get it in 3/4" stroke with is nice for cutings things when there is something you don't want to cut behind it. I've used portacable and dewalt. the portacable doens't last in the plumbing buisness at all, its probably good for FSJs though. I'd go with either of the two. Milwaukee or Portacable.

I use a Ryobi cordless 18v with no problems at all. Being cordless makes it a great junkyard tool. Plus I can take my whole cordless set on the trail if needed.

I have plenty of 2 door Cherokee vin plates in my collection, I need a 4 door wagoneer one to complete my, huh, collection.

The saw will work just fine if use good metal blades and take your time.

I just bought a cheapo-electric 4-1/2" grinding tool from Harbor Freight for $10. I also bought 10 metal-grinding discs for $7. I used that to cut off 4 bolts that were almost 1/2" thick grade 5, and it took about 45-seconds to a minute for each bolt (was on the suspension of one of my jeeps). Best $17 I've spent!

I like the Milwaukee and Porter Cable saws. The
Harbor Freight tools are Chinese Junk that do
not last and repair service is not available.

I bought a $40 sawzall from Harbor Freight and it works fine, but if you want something truly long term I would pick up either a Milwaukee or Makita. There is a reason these two are the top brands, if you really got some bucks you can go DeWalt too.

Most important thing to do though is to buy plenty of blades because I went through about 5 of them just cutting my rear fenders by 4 inches redface.gif
