well kids,my transfer case dilemas are forcing me to somehow upgrade, and im having a hard time deciding what to do about a PTO.

if a PTO with a rear output exists for the T18,that is an option for now,but when i swap in my np435 that option sort of disappears as its only pto port is onthe passenger side

i had a d20 pto,and i wanst crazy about it,either,as its output faced forward(so would have required the use of a couple of right angle gear boxes,or another chain),and it commited me to staying with a 2.03 low range. not to mention that the d20 may not hold up much better than the spicer 18,so i dont want to invest alot of $$ into a system that would be dependent on that.

id like some sort of way to drive my PTO winch that would be less tranny dependent,so im considering using some sort of hydraulic motor to drive it. the motor would be driven by a 2nd power steering pump.

wich brings me to the question. im lookig thru a "surplus center" catalog and theyve got a few pages with hydraulic motors. most are rated in terms of flow, psi, output torque. prices range from $119 to over $400

i have no idea what id need. the winch is a large, worm gear driven unit from a tow truck, and i think is pretty conservatively rated at 8000 lbs.

anyone got any advice? smile.gif

Crazy_Jeepman gave me a site one time that has a bunch of hydrolic stuff, pumps, winches, etc. I can't remember what it was know but it was a pretty good site. Someday I'd like to get a hydrolic pump for the PTO on my T-18 and run a winch off that.

Scotty, I'm sure you've already considered the possibility, but why can't you run a PTO off of the NP203 that is behind the NP435 that you bought? I remember seeing a PTO for the NP203 on Ebay a while back, but I'm not sure how it mounts so it may be of no help at all. If not, it only took you 15 seconds to read this. Let us know how your hydraulic set up works. I'm very interested.

what is a PTO? Part time only??

It takes lots of flow to drive a hydraulic motor at a usable speed. I seriously doubt a power steering pump would give you the flow you'd need. This kinda sparks my interest as well. I may get back here with more info.

will, that will eventually be an option, but im not putting in the 203 right away. ill prolly run my t18 with a d20 for at least another summer.

id like o set sometig up that i wont have to change again when i swa in the other tranny.

mechanic, does a hydraulic motor needmore flow than a milemarker hydraulic winch that runs off of a p/s pump?

i dont care how fast it is,long as its got the power to spin it when im stuck like chuck ;)

with my engine idling a 1000 rpm, and the tranny in 1st,the pto drivesahft was not spinning very fast at all-maybe 150 rpm

ur thots? smile.gif

Will E PTO stands for Power Take Off. It is normally a port off a tranny that can run another device such as a winch. They are really handy but have some downfalls also in a winching sitituation.

hrm, you would have to have some really long hydrolic lines running it off a PS pump. If you use a hydrolic pump, and you gear it down it should have the power to run your PTO with decent power.

I dont see many other ideas...
