Anyone here running one? Is anyone running one behind a AMC TH-400? I want to convert my TH-400/QT tailshaft to a G.M 32 spline. What tailshaft did you use and what was the install like. What if any adaptors did you use and any other usefull information.

The atlas II isnt designed for full size rigs. Its heavy duty yes, but is designed for CJ's and the like. They state this somewhere on their site.

IMO, the Atlas II is more than beefy enough....basically it's a further evolution of a Dana 300...and those are tough.

Stuka, they may be "designed" for the smaller Jeeps but with optional 32 spline outputs front and rear, 1350 or 1410 yokes, and a gear driven case, what exactly was the problem? I think that it's plenty beefy for the most harcore wheelin you want to throw at it. The only weakness is the aluminum case but all our jeeps have those now (np229, 208, etc). Personally though, blt2krl, I think that although the atlas is a sweet case, your money could be better spent somewhere else. For instance, I got my NP208 for $250 in great condition, put a 1410 yoke on the front, a 1350 yoke on the rear, and went with it. Also, the 208 has 32 spline outputs front and rear. So for like 350 total spent I've got one heck of a case. The only diff is it's chain driven but I've honestly never seen a chain fail in a 208. Take the extra grand or so saved and buy some beer or something cool like that ;)

-AndrewI'm Getting 1 ton Chevy axles ( Passenger side droop). I want the 4.3 to 1 crawl and the 32 spline front and rear outputs. I'm also kicking around the (203,205)doubler setup as well. The QT I have now is holding up fine so I won't be changing it out until I shell it. I always save money for beer.... :D

LOL. Sounds like you're gettin serious man. I can't wait to see how that turns out. Your truck is sweet already. I hear ya on wanting the 4.3 crawl. Definitely go with the Atlas if you're going for crawl instead of the doubler setup. That setup weighs like 50 billion pounds.

FulMetal (Mike Cox) has the Atlas II installed... HIS WIFE GOT IT FOR HIM ON HIS BIRTHDAY!!!!! It was impressive in Ouray last summer.... I think she got a good deal on it for around $2200

I haven't seen him here in a while... work may be keeping him VERY busy....

here is a pic of his FSJ...

During my search I have found only one time a person broke the atlas and Advanced Adapters replaced it after inspecting it they said there was a flaw... Advanced Adapters is about 10 miles from me up in Paso Robles

Go with the AtlasII with 32 spline outputs
front and rear. The 3.8-1 box has higher
torque capacity if you are worried about it.
Thats what I'm going with. With a 6.32-1 first
gear and 4.11 diffs I think the 3.8 Atlas
will work fine for me. The 3.8-1 box costs
less also...

A buddy of mine has been running a 3.8:1 Atlas in his full size Blazer for 3 years. It's behind a mildly built TBI 350/700R4 combo. It's never given him a lick of trouble and he beats the heck out of his rig. He's broken two of his front D60 axle shafts but not his Atlas.

BLT2CRL: just going by what I have read in the past. Maybe that was before the 32 spline version came out? I think I have a petersens around here saying it was best for lighter vehicles. But thise was some time ago. If you want a better crawl swap in a granny low 4sp, and if you put a 3.4:1 crawl atlas II behind that, then your looking at like a 88:1 crawl. With the auto your looking at like 34:1

Not slamming you Stuka just providing some new info. I personally love my auto for rockcrawling and wouldn't get rid of it. A manual would be a great way to get lower crawl ratio though.

As for only working in a light rig most of the competition Rock Crawlers I've seen were in the 4500-6000 pound range with way more horsepower that the normal FSJ has. SO I would think it would hold up just fine in a FSJ.
