I spent my life savings on a set of 40's monday and i needed to test em out so i 'rigged' my jeep with no front locker, front shocks, swaybar, winch, limiting straps, bumpers, a hood and a bunch of other stuff you need for a good trail. And set out for my testing grounds at the local rock trail 'carnage' today and i am dissapointed with my mtr's. For the dime i dished out to get them i was especting a tire that was designed for all the aspects of wheeling like rock, mud, dirt. The mtr is not a mud tire, i was gettin shown up by a couple of my friends who have yj's and tj's with 35" krawlers. I wish i would've waited for the 39" krawler insead of wasting all my money on 40's. For anybody saving up for a big road tire like the mtr go krawler they are the sheeite. Anybody else have the same opionion about mtr's?

There is no such thing as a tire designed to do everything ;)

The MTR is NOT a mud tire. It was designed for trails and rocks. Also, do you have bead locks? I have seen that MTR's run at 4-6psi do much better then an MTR run at 15psi and up (if you dont have bead locks)

The MTR will last about 3 times longer then a Krawler. As the krawler has a very soft compound (great for grip on rocks) but bad for any sort of pavement driving.

i was running at 7 psi with trail ready beadlocks and they still weren't as impressive as my old super swampers at 30 psi. My good friend has a yj with 35" krawlers and he has 9,000 miles on them and they still have lots of tread on them. I would say a little less than half tread ;) I was told i would get 15k out of my gy mtr so i think they are about the same

Well yeah, a TSl is gona trash a MTR in mud. To bad Interco doesnt make the SX in a 40" size. As its the best alll around tire IMHO. Good in mud, great on rocks with some siping, VERY tuff sidewalls (bias ply with side tread). Although granted they do do good on ruted out loose rock/shale. But no wide tire does. Thats where narrower tires do better.

I think you will be happier with them on the rocks and stuff then you where in the mud. As they arent designed for it.

Return them! Just take them back and tell the manager that you are very disappointed with their performance. Goodyear is a big company - they'd rather you get what you want, tell people of your positive experience and not complain for the next three years.

Return them. That's too much $$$ not to be happy.

I know carnage doesn't have much water because of the low elevation but Coney flats, Middle st. vrain, crystal mountain, and slaughterhouse gulch had some mud that i went through. I avoid mud as much as possible so i don't really care about mud tires but the mt/r doesn't clean out any mud.

BTW- rockjeep44, i'm keepin my tires, sorry. I don't know if there is a 4wp's around you but i just went to tirerack.com and took their price of 316 a tire and 4wp's price matched it and i got the tirewarrenty. They are still freakin expensive ;)
