My jeep didnt have a front bumper when I got it and stock bumpers suck so here are a few pics of the bumper I am making its about 3/4 of the way done. The main tube is 2x4 with part of it double and a section left out in the middle for a removable recever winch mount to interlock for side to side support. The Recever tube goes through the front crossember and is tied into the main tube as well.

Thanks, I am trying to build it strong and functional but not big and bulky.
The recever is welded to both the frame and the bumper but Im not sure if I am going to weld or just bolt the side brackets to the frame right now the drivers side is bolted with the 4 steering box bolts and the pass side just has a couple bolts keeping from moving around while I build the rest.
BTW the part you see in the middle isnt the frame that is part of the bumper there is 2" between the bumper and the frame, thats where the recever pin is. So the front of the main tube sticks out about 6"s from the frame. Still its a lot closer than most winch bumpers, When I have a winch and its installed it will stick out farther but it will be as close as posible with out moving the grill

Is that on your J3000? I have the same one, would be interested to know what mods can be done to it.

Sorry it is on my 74 Wagillac. The J3000 is torn apart. I set the cab from it on a 77 cherokee frame and I might just scrap the old J3000 frame.

Here are a few more pics. Its almost complete I will add a grill guard/rollover bar some time but that will wait till I get a bender, Other then that it needs the square tube to wrap around the fender on the drivers side and some more braces and a plate to strengthen where I knotched out for the leaf spring mount.
Here is one of it flexing out a little in the back yard. Its also proof that I have goten it running sence the engine swap ect.

did you plasma cut those brackets to clear the shackle hanger?
Wagillac

The brackets are 3/8" steel I think I will reinforce them a little as the knotch took a bunch of the strength. The other easyer option is to just weld them to the spring hanger smile.gif .
I cut them out with an acetylene torch.
im also going to use 3/8 x4 flat bar..for my brackets too.,
ty for the info

Looks good! it looks like you could lay some more 3/8" plate over the cut you made for the shackle hanger if you are worried about the strength there

Thanks, Thats basicaly what I was planing... except I dont have any more 3/8" so I will use some 1/4" scraps.
