hey guys ,,,need some help

today while i was at the Wreckers ,, i was lookin at, what the guy there said was a 76 FSJ and i notices to the right of the steerin coloum ,,,,it had a 4 low pull cable,, where as my 77 has the lever on the floor by the front edge of the seat

so im curious

1..... what years ran the cable

2.....is it a better , more possitive, shift then the lever,,,(since the lever has been cut ,,and lenghtened ,,due to body lift,

3...if i was to change over ,,,is it a direct bolt in ? is it worth the effort?

BTW i have pics of the cable at the dash end if it helps ,,,,,,,,awww the guy of searching the wrecker , with the digital cam in hand ;)

I have the cable on mine, but I haven't been able to test it versus the lever.

Cable shifter was a PAIN!!! I would never convert from lever to cable. The Lever setup is way better. Cable siezes and breaks, nor does give a positive feel. It is not a direct swap either, the shift arm on the low range unit is different from that of the Cable vs the lever, though it would not be hard to make either one work either way

i broke the cable in my 75 takn out the QT...u think u cood remove that cable w/o it disintergrating in ur hands and ship it to me for a cheep price?

mine snapped at the QT when the cabel end threads siezed in the lever arm sliding block :(

Lever is much better shift device. The cable was used 73 thru 75.

I have a 75 Chero with qt that has both a pull cable and the lever on the floor. The lever works...so I guess somewhere along the way there was transfer case swap then? There's a loose cable underneath with some sort of bracket on the end of it, that might be my unused pull cable. I also have manual hubs. Haven't driven it yet...still working on the engine swap.

Kenall:
If I don't need it and it's in good shape, it's yours for shipping costs.

Sorry man...it's in rough shape, the transfer case end is broken off at the threads and the cable seems to be a bit bound up. Probably not worth your time.
