Has anyone come up with any clever ways to easily and quickly remove and reinstall the doors on a FSJ? Seems like a great way drop a couple hundred pounds but then I don't want to spend an hour lining everything back up when I need to be weather proof. Ideas?

i just moved my window switch to my dash and used a plug in my door to unwire my window motor....then all you have to do is unplug the window motor, and unbolt the doors...(i only use four bolts instead of the factory six...i can remove the doors in a few minutes by myself and reinstall them pretty easy..

47's is the easiest way. You can use a flat trailer plug. Also take an ice pick and scribe to edge of the hinge to the piller for easy alignment. If you have the torx bolts and you are taking them on and off frequently, go to a hex head bolt, and save some headaches down the road.

Well that just sounds too easy. You guys aren't having any problem getting to doors to line back up? I just unbolt the doors from my toyota with no lineup issues but they use a different style hinge. Thinking back to trying the same thing on my friends Scout 2 and FSJ they didn't go back on straight even though we scribed the doors and lined everything back up with the lines. This is going of my old hazy memory and I hope it's wrong. Do you remove the door from the hinge or the hinge from the truck? I'm guessing the later but maybe that's what we did wrong. Thanks

this is a very good question. this is what ive been pondering how to do myself. there has to be a latching device that will work. ive even looked at hinges on google images for hours but nothing. please someone help this fsjer out.

Best way on our rigs is to leave the door on the hinge and unbolt the hinge from the vehicle. If you scribe the position on the pillar, you can put it back to the position it was before removal.

Being able to have a way to pull like a baby Jeep would be nice, but the hinge design won't allow that. Would take a major rebuild of the pillar to come up with something that could be pulled easily. If you run a plug and scribe, should take less than 20 minutes to rehang both front doors.

the only problem i ran into was teh entry plate! which i just took off,no big deal..was rubbing the bottom of the door...like mentioned i run half doors till it gets cold enough, then throw my full doors back on!
on your yota i helped a buddy remove his door pins and put removable pins on it!wished it was as easy for fsj's

I have always been interested in maybe a YJ style of hinge ,,,so the doors can just slip off

No doors? A little cold for me. (ND) We had a prof. in college that would drive with the top down below zero. He was a little excentric(sp). Not for me!!

well the hinges on our doors have 2 of these (( curved pices right... in my thinking you could drill 4 holls in both of those tap the holes, make straps that go on the rearward part of the curved pieces, then cut the curved pices in half, they would be be un-boltable and then you would just need to deal with the wiring...

pics of idea... step one,drill/tap holes http://www.fsjworld.com/gallery/lazurus/86325.jpg step two, fabricate/bend/drill holes in strap http://www.fsjworld.com/gallery/lazurus/86327.jpg step three, cut the hinge between the holes http://www.fsjworld.com/gallery/lazurus/86326.jpg

it would probably go more like, fab strap and drill holes - drill tap holes in hinge - cut hinge

pretty good idea. no worries on adjustment either. you might have to put the strap on the other side b/c of the post. would it fit into the hinge hole post side? how long would it last do ya think the bolt threads would loosen up or do you think they would hold the adjustment? we have a good base for it is there any ideas to improve on that good idea. i am considering this already. could it be improved for endurance. heck yeah. any other ideas.

A year or so back, one of the guys firgured out an easy to do push pin release system for Blazer doors at Colorado K5. YOu may want to do a search.

I remember thinking that mod would have worked great on our FSJ's.

Anyway, all you had to do was pull two pins out to release the door, less than a minute to remove it and no tools required. Didn't cost much to do but required welding.
