from what ive read, its generally frowned upon to make them really long, im lookin to gain an inch or two of lift. i see that bjs sells some for 75 bucks a piece, but there just doesnt look to be much to it.on the front i want to run skyjacker 4" springs and longer shackles on the front and a shackle flip an rb's kit in the rear with the stock springs. is it cheaper or a good idea to make my own shackles or have someone weld up a set for me? thanks for the help.

I would not go with a 2" lift shackle on the FSJ... not good... that would make the shackle 4" longer than that of the stock one.... WAY TOO LONG

Plus you angle the diff upward more.. how much.. I dont know... the biggest shackle I used was off the year of a 96 Burb and gave about .75"- 1" of lift...

you can see the length difference... now think about 4" longer....

cheapest thing is to get a chevy or ford set and that'll net you about 0.5" of lift (shackle is one inch longer than stock)

But you're right, there's not much to them and if you want to go through the effort, it's definitely cheaper to make them than buy BJs shackles.

Don't go over 1" of lift though (2" longer shackle) or you'll really mess with your steering geometry. This is only true for the front, you COULD go longer out back, but it'll get squirmy if you go much longer than that though IMHO

you can also get the same shackle on the rear of ford rangers, f-150 trucks, broncos and also chevy 1/2 ton...it's all pretty much the same shackle out back BTW. some 3/4 tons use the same one too, but a lot of chevys migrate to a 3" spring at that point I've noticed...
