Today i swapped a 60ff and 6" lift into my 84 J-10,was a 20. When i put the driveshaft back in it just barely fit, just enough room to put the u-joint caps on.Im afriad if i hit a bump it gonna screw up the works. It's a 258/176/208. Any suggestions ??? I have a place locally that can make me a drive shaft $$$$. What year driveshaft would work ? Putting the matching 44 front in tommorrow morning. The rear front spingeye bolts suck to get out, only bright side was that when i pulled the tank to get to the bolt i was able to fix the sending unit. "WOW" a working gas guage, who would of thunk it to be true.... :D

you need to shorten your driveshaft to compensate for the longer pinion . Dennis

is it compressed all the way, or stretched out to it's limit? as the gator mentioned, you can get your existing shaft lengthened or shortened depending on what's wrong with your current setup. Locally it's like $40 to shorten a shaft and $80 to lengthen it. just look up driveshafts in the yellowpages.

If you measure between u-joints and take it to a driveline guy he’ll shorten or lengthen your shaft to make it right for the new measurement.

One thing you might consider is getting the J20 drive shaft and get it modified if it actually needs it. The tube is bigger dia than a J10 iirc to go with the dana 60.

Crisper, those are 36" tires? what size rims are you running? 15x10" ?

16.5x9.75 with 4.5 back spacing and they clear the springs no problem. They stick out a little in the back. I think i'm gonnabend the flares out a little to cover them.

Nice truck. I did the same (D60 rear, upgraded front D44 to 8 lug) on my 1980 J10. I'm running 35's with 16x10 rims. My tires stick out a little more, but should not be much of a problem.

Are you guys talking about using the stock front and changing the outers to 8 lug, cause I am thinking of doing this and was wondering if there is a difference between chevy or ford or even dodge .

Not sure about the chevy and ford rears. I pulled these from a J-20.

That lift and those tires are a perfect match. It looks like it should have come that way from the factory. Good job.
