what would be involved in switching my current D20 to a NP203-NP205? I have the TH400 tranny and stock D44 front D60 rear in a 69 J3000. driveline changes? I know about the adapter that is needed between the tranny and case..

spline count on the output shaft of the tranny should be the only concern with the bolt up... the drivelines may have to be lengthened/shortened.... and maybe yoke swaps to match the ujoints

Get a 32 spline HD Turbo 400. The ORD NP203 will bolt to it and with the doubler a 32 spline NP205 will bolt up. Very, very simple to set up.

I happen to have a few HD Turbo 400's out of CUCV trucks if you need one.

AJ you can talk to Will Morris on the board, he's doing that exact thing right now.

FSJeeper, you got yourself a PM.

AJ, that was the little question I had for you a while back the the 4L80E. Just get a 32 spline TH400 output shaft, I think the one that came with the Dana 20 is the same one. I remember JeepKahn saying that it was, so you're already way ahead. If you just want to put an NP205 in, you'd just have to swap the adapter for the NP205 adapter and bolt up an NP205 that has a 32 spline female input. If you want to do a doubler, then just do what FSJeeper saidf, except I think you've already got the TH400 with a 32 spline output. Let me see if I can go dig up the thread.

Read this. I think you'll find some useful info in this thread.

Hope this helps.

thanks will!!! that helps alot..
now, my next question is this... what is the length of the D20 and the 205? basically, am I going to have to do driveline mods?

No Problem AJ. As far as I can tell just from looking at them, the NP205 is thicker so the rear might have to be shortened. Since the front wouldn't be affected by it, it might be fine. This is all conjecture and of it's also going to depend on what yokes you have. I can't tell you for sure, but the mods would probably be minimal unless you went for a doubler. Let us know how it works out.

will do..
AND.. I'm gonna take lots of pics for the whole thing... maybe do a tech write-up on it for these *cough* hard working moderators to add to the tech forums
