Anyone have any advice as to why or how to fix this problem, because it is hard t o stop this thing when she wants to go, I have to kill the engine to stop her.

Well to tell the truth i have ran into the same problem. The throttle linkage i was using wasnt the correct one. I wen to oreillys and purchased a new throttle cable. Hoping it would be long enough to flex with the rig. Look for any reason i may be flexing too much between body and frame.

Sounds like your high-speed idle is intermittantly acting up. It may not have anything to do with low-gear, but low-gear is the only time you notice.

Disconnect the throttle cable from the carb. See if the carb throttle is sticking or the throttle cable. If neither, it could be that the motor mounts are flexing and cocking the throttle. May have to replace them or the trans mount.

I had this problem as well back when I had a carb. You're not crazy about it happening only in 4lo. The reason for this is the extra torque produced twists the truck just enough to cause your problem. The torque produced with hi range just isn't enough. The problem is either with the clearance in the linkage or in your throttle cable. I noticed on mine if the truck torqued just right the linkage would hang and/or the throttle cable would hang. Check there first and I bet you'll find the problem.

As stated, it's definately the motor torquing and literally "pulling" the cable. If the mounts aren't enough, run a limiting chain/cable off the side of the motor, away from the torque. Leave some slack to allow for the mounts to work a little, but tight enough that it doesn't pull the throttle.

It may also just be a broken motor mount(drivers side) that's what my problem was. I found out when I was going to pull up a steep hill a little and stop to get a picture. When my friends said how impressive the ensuing climb to the top was I almost didn't want to tell them the truth. lol. Dennis

Yep, motor/trans mount flex can certainly do that. If the throttle cable extends too far, the little tubular cover over the end can hang on the tip of the sheath. I haven't yet looked at whether this relationship is adjustable, but I'd bet that it could be by whacking the bracket with a rock if nothing else.
