View Full Version : 32" tires and 4" spring... this'll fit... right

I'm buying a set of 32 x 11.5s this weekend. Then, eventually, I'll go from the 3" springs to BJ' Offroad 4" system.

You'll notice there are no "ifs" in my plan - I will ultimately have 32s and 4" springs... so, do you think I'll have any rubbing issues?

From what I've seen it pretty close. The additional width over the 31's may be part of the problem. I talked to a guy at the grocery store a while back that had a SkyJacker 4" lift and 32's and he said it rubbed a little. And the SkyJacker 4" lifts look more like 5 or 5 1/2". It probably all depends on just how much you plan on flexing the suspension, if a lot, it'll probably rub in the back.

does this mean that your not going to independent front suspension? http://www.nagca.com/forum/images/smiles/1slap1.gif :D :D

IFS = independant rear suspension smile.gif

The 32's will rub the front edge of the rear fender well under flex.

Just Like Stuka said, it will rub. I have an '89 GW w'3" AAL (older short 3" pro-comps) and had to add a 3" body lift to stop rubbing while wheeling or hitting a big bump 32x11.50 MT. Sorry but you will need a body lift or narrow tires. --Tim

What we will do is add an overload or a leaf or two to the rear, a shackle lift up front, giving you a 5" lift instead of the 4" lift.

I have a ton of extra leaves right now, so to help get a slightly used Rough Counrty lift on my J-10, I would be quite happy to build up some packs. For the front, we can either hit the parts yards, or buy some chevy shackles, or some XJ lift shackles from rusty's. Or you could buy mine at a reduced cost if time is tight and I can replace mine later. Do the BJ's springs come with rubber or Poly bushings? The bushings in my shackles are good and newish, but they ain't entirely perfect.

OF course, I don't have a wag, nor a 4" lift on a wag. I do have a set of 32's, which we could do a trial fit after the lift, however, I don't know if the shackle and leaves will truly clear the 32's.

So there's my advice - lift my truck.

Daniel

P.s. Any more word on when the BJ's lift will get to you?

I am running 32x11.5s on a 15x7 rim and they dont rub. The 7 inch rim keeps them tucked in just enough.

You should have bought a wt. I put on a 4" lift and cut off my fenders an now have a set of 35" MT/R s with no rubbing at all! Sorry I can't help in your situation.

That reminds me, I have 10" rims and they rubbed but as dharmabum said he had 7" rims and it cleared so take your rim size into consideration. --Tim

I've got stock rims and 32" BFG AT with no rubbing. I've been off-road'n quite a few times before the motor died.

Well... looks like I'll rub... or not... ;) I'll post pics.

Thanks for comments!

How about adding a 1" block under the rear spring pack? With the way you use your Jeep, it would prevent that rub for cheap. You'll be getting new ubolts anyway, and steel blocks should be about $20.

The trimming required for the 32's on a 4" lift is not on the body itself... rather inside the fwd edge of the wheel well as Stuka said.... you will not even notice the trimming and it is minor.... as long as you have the 7-8" rims....

I ran 36x12.5"s on 8" rims with 4"s of lift moderate trimming compiared to the triming done with 42"s and 10 inches of lift. Goe for the gold!!!!! LOL

I think I'll do both the 1" block and the trimming... Thanks!!!

Well hey, if 32" tires will fit on a 4" lift on 7" rims then it looks like I'll be going to 32's here pretty soon. I will be getting Rusty's 4" from BJ'S at the end of the month. Only problem is my 31's are only 6 months old, maybe Discount Tire will take them in towards a trade.

I have a Skyjacker 4" on my 78 with 32x11.50 BFG KOs on the stock rims. The rubbing points on mine are:

1. Both front tires rub on the springs at the rear of the tire if trying to turn lock to lock. Not bad enough not to do it but it will add a little to your turning radius. I did not go with offset wheels because I was concerned about hittng the fenders under full compression (and the $$$$ smile.gif )

2. The rears are pretty close to the inside of the top of the tire using the stock rims and while I have no doubt that it may rub too much there under full compression I had no problems there just a little rub. Guess I need to get out more on harder trails huh?

If I were to continue forward progess on my 87 I would get 8" wide wheels with about 1" less backspace, trim the lower rear corner of the front fenders and fold it over to make it look nice, and trim both the front and rear lower corners of the rear wheelwells and roll the edge in all the way around the rear wheel opening. The triming would not even be really noticable to anyone not well versed in FSJs. I think that this would resolve most clearance issues with my setup.
Alas the 87 is sitting in the parking lot with a noticable u shape in it peaking above the rear wheels :( - I am glad though that I was in the wag when the Uhaul hit, I would pity the fool driving a small car in the small situation.

Now my next "victim" will get an inch or two body lift to go with the 4" Skyjacker - gotta keep moving UP!
