Does anyone know how, with serial number, the original build specs can be located for a 1979 j20? I have contacted GM for the same info for another vehicle and for a small fee was supplied quite an extensive package. I am also looking for a rear drivers axle, Dana 60, and a 4 bbl manifold,360, for the same vehicle. I live in Western Canada.

Did you try the tech pages? They have a good break down of the VIN. You can also go to www.specialtyparts.com (http://www.specialtyparts.com) and they break it down as well.

Are you looking for a factory 4 bbl? If not edelbrock makes them for the 360. EGR and Non-EGR, a lot of us run them and the work great.

Porkchop, I am not stuck on a stock manifold so the edelbrock might be the answer. I have had this truck for a number of years basically to haul wood, garbage etc. I have been waiting for the opportunity to restore it which has finally arrived. after checking the VIN i have found that this is an 8400 # vehicle,....3/4 ton ?????? no wonder i cant find parts! every thing i find here is a GW Cherokee or j10 with QT all 2bbl so far, at the boneyards anyway. long way to get to the question what is the 8400# deal ,dana 60 rear dana 44 front, from what i understand. with lots of spring in the rear front is saggin a bit. rides like a rock this truck!
spicer told me, through a parts desk, that they no longer make axles for this rear end so i have been searching high and low until i found this page at work and decided to get
online at home. now maybe i can find what i need with help from all you folks.
