getting ready to start cleaning the rust up and painting everything up underneath was thinking of using durabak or herculiner on frame rails and just using some rustoleum paint with primer first on diffs, axle tubes, and anything else under to make it look clean.what has been your experiences with these areas? thanks for input

ap,
I did the underside of the body and the whole frame with Herculiner. Really like the way it came out. Durabak has gotten better press but the Herc was right down at the Boys where it was easy to get my hands on. I plan on doing the outside the same way but I'll hold out for the Durabak there. Cleaned both axles off and sprayed on couple of coats of Rustoleum Pro grade black. In fact, cleaned and painted almost every thing that went back on the GW. I'll take a bunch of pictures so I can remember how good it looks now. I'm across the river from Philly if you want to swing by and take a look.

If you want to spend over $ 100.00 painting under your GW go right ahead and use the bedliner paint of choice you wont go wrong.

I used tractor paint from Farm & Family, Millville, NJ to paint the frame and axles. Removed all the rust with a grinder and wire wheel. Prined with red oxide primer and top coated with flat black. The paint has stayed on except for rubs and abrasion. Paid about $ 30.00 for both. For the wheel wheels and floor, I used non fiberized roof coating. You can buy this now for $ 2.50 gal.purchased two gal saturday. It's lasted about one year on hard use. I just plan to pressure wash and recoat where needed.

Good luck!

I'll tell you what works good, not fancy but very tough. I used asfault based fibered roof coating. Its so cheap too I've coated the whole frame cab inside floor and underneath, inner fenders, inside front clip and the supports for my flatbed. When it dries its as hard as rock!! I think its going to hold up the nasty PA winter weather and road salt quite well.
