Are all the dodge 60's pass drop?

I could swear I was in front of a new dodge dually, and looking in my rear view mirror, it looked like a drivers side drop? I thought Dodges where all pass? Dennis

new dodges are driver side drop. The 1500 uses IFS, the 2500 uses a D44 front, the 3500 uses a D60 front i think.

late seventies through nineties fords are drivers side drop too. On the 350s and some 250s you can get Dana 60 drivers side drop axles, except for some mid 80s rigs that had this weird IFS thing going. I'm trying to find one for my wag project as we speak. I'll have to keep an eye out for wrecked new dodges too I guess!

i was pretty sure the big dodge,like the ram,was still pass side drop. little trucks,like the dakota,are driver side. i could be wrong,tho-i dont know anything bout brand new dodges

Actually many of the 2500's have 60's in the front as well..I have one...But it is mostly the diesels or the v-10's...

Yup. The 2500s had 60 fronts with the diesel and V10. The change happened sometime in the mid 90s if I remember correctly. At that time Dodge changed the front axles from passangerside to driverside drop. However they also started using vacuum disconnect front axles and the ones with ABS had something, I can't remember what off the top of my head, funky going on with the diffs themselves. But, the redesigned Dodges of the last year or two do not use Dana 60 front Axles. They use axles manufactured by American Axle Manufacturer. I seem to remember the shafts being 33 spline and not quite as large in diameter as the Dana 60, but again, I can't remember off the top of my head.

Will: oh yeah thats right! Petersens talked about it. The 2003 dodge 2500 and 3500 dont use dana or chrysler axles at all. I will have to find the artical, it was for the 4x4 truck of the year.

Even the 2500 V-8's had Dana 60s. Only bad thing about them is the vaccum disconnect and set-up for coil springs

afaik, all solid dana 60's made after 91 are driverside drop. they're also all unit bearing (blegh!)

the 03-up rams use American Axle products, ala the 10 bolt/12 bolt/14 bolt lineage

So if the dodge driverside drop D60 is a bad choice for a swap, what would be a good choice for a driverside drop D60? Don't the fords have a metric bolt pattern? I am trying to find one to match with my 14 bolt, and The dodge seemed like the best choice until now.

the earlier(78 and up) reverse cut ford axle is prolly the best choice for a driver side axle. it has 35 spline inners,30 spline outers,and conventional lockouts and kingpins.alot of people feel the kingpin is a stronger design than a ball joint. the high pinion is great for lifted rigs and eases the driveshaft angle.

and the spring pad width is the same,so it will bolt right to your leaf springs smile.gif a friend is in the process of installing one in his xj,and he is even able to reuse his same u bolts,and it should be fairly simple to make some high steer arms that bolt on with the kingpin bolts

What would need to be done to make the bolt pattern on a ford d60 match the bolt pattern on the 14 bolt rear?

Its the newer Fords that use the metric bolt pattern. The older ones use the standard 8 bolt pattern.
