Got a 81 wag. Anybody similar running a different tank? What is it and where'd ja get it?
Anybody do an aero tank in the spare-wheel well?

Looking for a new tank and perhaps an aux. before Ouray.

TIA,
Kong

I think for a "new" tank your stuck with the dealer for about $400. There was a recent blurb posted on the fsj-email list about this. Something to effect of the DOT prohibiting aftermarket gas tank manufacturers from building replacement tanks where the sending unit was on the side(below the fuel level). Seems to make sense because aftermarket stock tanks are avail up to 79 which still had the sender at the top. Don't know how true that is but it might explain why there are no 80+ aftermarket tanks available?

my sender unit is top mounted. I think that gas tank thread (on the FSJ-mail list) was for an older j-truck of some kind, so I didn't think it applied to my wag.

Don't know if this is what you got or not, all the way down the page.

that looked just right, but Mike told me it was the wrong size and it wouldn't work. Still, I asked for dimensions, and he refused. With service like that, I wouldn't buy from him! He said they have too many people ("just like you" he said) ask for measurements and buy a tank and then send them back.
I reckon they use different rulers in Iowa!

Thanks,
Kong

Kong, since you think it looks right, but Mike(?) say it's not, let's check something here.

Is your gas tank held up there by the skid plate?

there is no skid plate...I just have the liner, fiberglass and such hanging down. Can't decide whether I need a new tank (I have no leaks), or just a new plate.

But I definitely need to finish dropping it before I know for sure.

Mostly this all got started 'cause I need to take care of that rust problem before it gets too bad.

Looks like it isn't since the skidplate is rusted out and the tank is still up there.

Hey yo BK! I'm running a plastic aftermarket that JC installed. It is not in the spare tire area though...it is in the original spot...I can look up the manufacturer at home to see who made it....

I run a 33 gallon Ford Bronco in the rear... go to my site and look...

$75 from the boneyard for the tank skid plate and straps...

It does hang a little low for non-lifted FSJ's but I don't worry about dragging it!!! ;)
