Hi,
How do air shocks work? I want to remove a couple of leafs from my M715īs suspension, so i can have some articulation. Someone at the M715zone suggested using air shocks and I was wondering what you guys thought. Can they be adjusted? How would they affect articulation and road driving?
Thank you.
Mikel

Mikel,

the 715 may be too heavy for air shocks, or you'll have to use 2 per side. They do allow for adjustment in ride height (I've had a set of Gabriel Hi-Jackers on the 4WD Aerostar i once owned), but as shocks go, they are on the soft side.

any air or gas-charged shocks limit articulation - say, for the same compressed length Bilsteins will have less travel than Ranchos. But Ranchos suck.

I am considering buying a set of Gabriel Hi-Jackers for my 68 Wag - to bump the *** end up another inch.

Air shocks are nice. Let out air like a tire when theyre too stiff, air them up like a tire when theyre too soft. Im with Peter though, I would run double gas-shocks! It would probably ride better, and would look really cool at the same time! tongue.gif

Lindsey has what appear to be Bilstein air-shocks on the rear of her Wagoneer..... and they work great.

Bilstein doesn't make air shocks. Its main specialty is gas-charged monotube shocks - which rock, IMHO.

Any ideas on how I could improve articulation and ride without compromising cargo capacity too much?
Thank you.

all i know is that they're white, and they're air. I thought Bilstein made them.
I wonder.........
