Well one of the good thing that comes with the summer heat and trail closures with High fire hazards is lots of extra time to work on the FSJ projects.

Its been a few months since i last posted pics of what i have been upto , just seemed to get too busy to even take pics,(sad isnt it) but i hope to make up for the delay now

STEP ONE

first thing i wanted to accomplish was Rock slides, with all the great pics on here i knew what i wanted, the plan was to use 2x6 3/16 wall , but since metal was so $$$$ and that was like $17.70 a foot, that was out of reach . so after many many trips to the scrap metal yard i was able to find 2x8 ,

so i figure WHAT THE HELL,,, Big IS BETTER... tongue.gif lol

so i now have 2x8 rock slides on each side, i removed the under door sill and mounted then up as tight as i could ,,with about 3" stickin out to..I then used 3 1-1/2" sch40 pipe brackets welded to the frame for support , i still want to gusset them , for extra strenght,

Now i know i will here "USELESS WITHOUT PICS" ..lol im writing this from work today(where i work on and store my FSJ) and i will post the pics of the rockslides tonight,

Sounds cool slim, we need those pics. Why don't you head over to Alberta for some wheeling. I can get you a bunch of people to go with in Waiparous.

Slim

since mine is made for trail only here, i think that would be a long haul for it ,,,lol..im not firmilar with "Waiparous" ,,,got pics?

You guys ever get to the coast and our lil rock over here?

I'd be up for some West Coast wheeling, but sadly it won't be till next year or in the winter sometime.

I would be up for a full size run sometime, maybe even meet somewhere in the middle of here and there, I could use a little road trip/wheeling trip.....I will probably be out in edmonton this sept/oct sometime but wont be able to bring the old cherokee out, cost me a fortune to drive there and back, I would like to meet up when I come out though, check out some of your guy's rides ;)

cheers Dwain

I was very pleased with the way they fit up with the body , it took a chance i thought with something that large but as u see it doesnt show as stickin out that much,

http://www.pretense.net/4x4/rs4.jpg

they are made to continue the look i used in the rear ,and be used as a functional step for the family also ,

hey slim how do you like the super sport tires?
or are they Big O MT's?

Slim
07-21-2004, 04:44 AM
lol good eye guy ,.. they are super sports, they are ok , i dont have many miles on them , but i have had them for about 5 yrs,,,,LOL GO FIGURE,

i have never blown one,,,,,i have lost one bead on the trail once, they seem to aleast have one leakin from a dirty bead ,,every trip ,,on average,,

the last run i did was some hard rock ,,i notice a couple small chunks out of the front tire, so pretty normal stuff,

all and all since they were one of the cheapest 35" i found at the time,,,,im pretty happy with them ,

it always seems like when u look at tires, if u JUST spend a little more $$$ u get one better ,,,,then a little more $$$ another better ,,,ect.,....never ending

Slim, nice BJs sticker! I see you went with yellow. good choice of color scheme. the sliders look good too. what did you paint them with?

Slim
07-21-2004, 07:35 AM
actually i went Yellow Passenger side,,,,white drivers side and the other one ,i passed onto Fsjeep for his FSJ

the steps are just painted with a spray can (cheapest touch ups) of aluminum silver color.it matches the rear & frt bumper colors ...the black is Tremclad spray can..

looks real good Slim. why not trim the fenders up to the exo. this way if your tires touch they won't get chewed to hell and back.

It looks like you put a lot of hard work into it...I can only say though, it looks like it is getting heavy smile.gif

Slim
07-23-2004, 04:05 AM
Thanks Guys , yes have been busting *** on it, its great havin it here at the Work shop ,,,i m usually here a couple hours before and a couple hours after work every day ..and hour or soo here and there sure adds up quick

Yes Rockcandy ,,,,i would think its gettin pretty heavy also , i was surprised how heavy the full doors weight,.. im tryin to figure on some YJ style hinge for easier door replacement,(just an idea right now)

I would like to get larger tired RockJeep i was thinkin like a 37" but since the 35" have tons of tread and doin good i will spend the limited $$$ on other things like Hi-steer , Hydraulic steering ,

youngjeeper, i can take any pic u want,, i have no door panel on the inside or a latch design yet, but just tell me what ya want to see, i would be happy to help, i can tell ya the door where capped with a old used trunk lid metal i cut into strips and had a Lady (yes female) welder friend , spend all day one day doin spot welds till she got full beeds around the top of each door

youngjeeper
07-23-2004, 06:11 AM
i just need to see a top view of the door, the "cap" of the door. also a good side pic too..thanks

Slim
