Has anyone installed one of the off road kits on an edelbrock. I thought I'd try one there only $10.
Let me know,
thanks

Will these work in a Carter Comp Series carb? I'm not sure of what the diffs are between the two.

Probably one of the easiest upgrades you can make on your carb, well worth it too.Not sure if it is the same for the comp. carb though.

Thanks, I just got a Carter from ebay but it needs rebuilt. I figured while I'm in there I could add the off-road needle set. I figured they were the same.
$10 !!!
I guess I better try my luck with one too in my Carter AFB 625

Here they are, $9.50 a set. You could probably find them at a "good" speed shop (not a ricer shop  )

You can also order them from Advance Auto & save on shipping. It is a must do for offroading.

Does anyone have an exact "before and after" situation with this kit? Like, before - I couldn't make it up the hill, the engine flooded. After - she went up perfectly.
I'm just wondering. Thanks!

I installed them before Ouray in 2002. I went up every hill, no problem. The key is to be very careful with resetting the float level. Take your time here and triple check your measurements!! Be sure you are bending the correct spot on the floats!!
There were a couple of rigs there with the off road kit that were flooding, but I think we figured out that they had not reset the floats properly.
I installed mine and am happy with it. My carb still will flood if I let off the gas on the uphills. I don't know if that is a float level problem or what, but it definitely helped.

Yeap they work great. The only problem is getting your floats just right. After I dialed that in it worked like a charm. Without them I could barely climb anything. Now it just goes....with the nose straight up in the air. One thing though. Occasionally it does have issues at idle and sitting on a very steep incline. But I cannot complain...well worth $10

What are ya'll setting the float levels at? The instructions that come with the needles/seats say 7/16" and the Edelbrock manual says 1/2" IIRC.

You are the only one we figured out, though.
Remember, when doing the float level: Up is Lower and Down is Higher. :D tongue.gif
The family is fine. 'Becca wants to get an RV so we can all go to Colorado. Daniel (5yr old) is into karate and may be starting wrestling soon. I have been working two jobs and going to school one night a week. I hope your's is well. Your boy must be growing up fast!! Start looking for an FSJ he can have when he's ready to drive!!

If your Carter AFB is less than, say, five years old, it may already have spring-loaded needle & seat assemblies that Edelbrock sells as their "Off-Road Needle & Seat" kit. Take off the to of the carb and have a look.
I keep telling folks that the Carter AFB 9635 is a better value than Edelbrocks. Same carb, different nametag.

It was well worth the effort.
