View Full Version : Zero oil pressure reading. That's...bad, right?

I have suspected for quite some time that my oil pressure gauge or sending unit is on the blink, but yesterday it started reading zero. Is there a sure-fire way to know that it's the gauge and not actually zero oil pressure?

If it always reads zero even with the motor @ high rpm, you can 99.9% suspect a guage or sending unit. Oil pressure increses with RPM, and if you have zero pressure, the motor should be klacking up a storm. First check is the lead attached to the sender. The sender is a can shaped object a little back and above the oil filter. Check that first. Make sure it is plugged in and/or the connection is pretty clean and tight.

If it's not the gauge you'll know right away...when the motor seizes.

Sho 'nuff, boss! Half the plug is completely gone. Looks like the wire was spliced above the unit and the plug must have just fallen right off. Don't you just love POs? Thanks for the info!

If the engine is quiet its fine hehe. When you start hearing the lifters clack then you know your low..when the engine siezes, your out ;)
The guage in my cherokee isnt even hooked to anything, the sending unit is nowhere to be found on the engine.
On my J10 when the engine gets warm the guage likes to drop to zero, even though I know it has oil pressure because the engine isnt clacking.

Just out of curiousity what is the normal oil pressure reading for a Grand Wagoneer with a 360 ci engine?
