I am considering building a new cross member for the transmission mount. The ends will use spring bushings and bolt into mounts. Strength is not an issue as I will be using 1.75" X .25" DOM tube. I was wondering if I can get away with solid mounting the transmission and just have the bushings on the ends of the cross member? I am running new urethane motor mounts. I believe I could eliminate the tourque bar. The result is more clearence for the front driveshaft and a much more solid mount.

Any ideas or am I inviting disaster and a broken bell housing??

those bushings wont flex that much. i had that setup (bushings and solid to tcase) and i broke 2 th400 to dana20 adapters. but i was running stock engine mounts. id say go w/ poly tcase mount also. but what the hell do i know.

The drag race guys said I should not go a solid mount. So I guess they are right. Just thought someone else had tried...DB.

the general consensus (in my dealings) is run the same type of mount front and rear, poly front poly rear, solid front solid rear, you get the idea.

It's not so much how much those bushings flex, but how far apart they would be if they are mounted next to the frame rails. A centrally mounted rubber mount will allow the engine/trans to rock a lot more than that due to its location.

Doesnt look like its happening this year...
Im not ruling it out, but the chunk of the "family" that usually comes down in June has decided to move back in July... Good thing is that we dont have to make it the end of June every frickin year.

I really liked January. My kind of weather... ;)

Kris...what you talked me into with that cam...makes you a criminal. That rig is more fun than the law allows. If you get to Florida drop me a line.

Have fun and get that rig of yours muddy :D
