Okay when i first got it the accellerator pump was sticking thus it would quite at any thing past half throttle. Well now the truck will run okay when just feathering the throttle but anything above that it just stumbless real bad and has no ooomph for lack of a better term. I can feather and get the truck up to about 70 but something is definantly wrong. As a matter f fact I went and did a little offroading and it did fair at minimal throttle but trying to go up over anything or any kinda low end horspower stuff when I give it the gas it dies. Any suggestions. Oh and I have 4:27 gears and TFI.

same problem im having, sortof. i called holley tech and they told me to adjust the nut that operates the pump, i did that and it helped a bit. he said that if that doesnt fix the problem then get a more radical pump cam, (said its the black one) also to increase the pump nozzle size to .030. im going to try this tomorrow and see how things work out.

Hmm let me know cuase its driving me up the wall. Truck cranks perfect and runs smooth but the power thing is wierd. Really irritates me that this is the best carb they offer and yoiu hve to start really tinkering with it. It should at least be close from the factory.

i love holley's, they are really an owner oriented carb!!! every holley ive ever had has needed adjustment from the factory, on the 4160's i always just took of the rear metering plate and put a jettable metering plate in place and converted to dual feed. but now to the new offroad carb i am new to (well i actually havent even seen it yet) but im sure ill figgure it out. and after you get this carb right it should be the sweetest running carb you got.

Frankenstein, I have the .30 squirter in mine from the stock .28 with the Blue pumpcam on the #1 setting and it rips. I also have a new motor and all other accessories too. When I ran it with my old beat motor, I used a .3o squirte and the stock orange cam on the #2 setting(probably would have been better with the blue one I am running now). Check your float levels and make sure you know the correct way to measure ythe clearance between the accelerator pump levcer and spring, don't just start messing with the adjustment on it.

So 88 gw how did it run when you first got it i mean exactly. When I first got mine it would not even open up past half way without dying, turned out the accelerater pump was not working at all. But now it just is crap at low end. Stumbles and spits but at about 45 it starts to run alright. On any incline were it needs some juice it will die. Floats are right per holley specs.

Mine ran pretty good out of the box. It was a tad lean off the line, which required some feathering of the throttle until it got up off idle and to about 1500 rpms. I did not have as much trouble as you described. What is your timing at, mine at first required some timing adjustments before it ran well. Also check your vacuum advance is not advancing or is not too retarded causing it to act that way. I remember adjusting my vacuum advance with the old motor. Have you checked the specs on the accelerator pump? Is it possible that the diaphragm is toast?

The set up that works well now on my new motor is as follows: New distributor don't mess with it, set at 14 degreees, idle screws are out about 1.5 to 2 turns, the pump cam is blue set on #1 and the squirter is a .30. I also switched over to manual choke(nothing to do with how it runs though).

I may have to check the Diaphram but if its that i will be very dissapointed with my new carb.

The holley must dieeee. I tinkered all morning to no avail then me and dad swapped on my mothers Edelbrock from her street rod. Well boys it was like a whole different truck. Holley goes back to Summit tommorrow. Edelbrock AVS Offroad series coming soon.

Sorry to hear that. The AVS is really no different than the standard Edlebrock except for looks and "off-road" needle and seats which do not work. Hope you don't do too much wheelin with it.

I had bad trouble with 2 edelbrocks, same problems Petersen magazine had when they did the carb shootout a couple of years ago... Fooey on edelbrock...

I got one of the first Holleys so it may be some Tech issue they figured out who knows. However as far as edelbrock goes I will do some testing as soon as I get it and we shall see.
