Didn't have any time to check it out cause I had to catch the bus, and I think it is probably simple, but...
two really slow cranks and then the rapid "click of death". Is this just a dead battery, or is the ignition module bad?
If memory serves it's just a dead battery when you get that rapid clicking, but I forget that that noise is.
Somebody tell me what I get to look forward to on a Friday night. (aaahh...fixing the Jeep that is.) ;)

Oh yes, I just had this very problem with my daily driver, a Chevy Lumina.
The symptoms were identical to what you described.
With the cold mornings we've been having, it's that time of year when batterys killed by summer heat show how sick they really are.
Good luck.

I'd start with checking the water in the battery, then clean the terminals and battery posts. If that doesn't help you probably have a bad battery. Usually the clicking sound is the solenoid trying to send power to the starter. It clicks because there isn't enough power to close the contacts.

You have a dead battery. I just came back from a week long trip and got the same thing. I have had this problem enough in the last few weeks to know for sure what it is :D :D .
