View Full Version : 1.5" body lift
I currently don't have a body lift, and I don't feel like I need the full 3" body lift. How hard would it be to half size a body lift, or simply get 1", 1.5" or 2" body pucks? Anyone done this?

I just finished a 1" on my choptop last night, i bought the pucks through 4 wheel performance and went and bought the bolts at the hardware store.

I bought the one inch pucks from 4wheel parts for 95 cents each with free shipping. I haven't put it on yet but I can buy bolts just an inch longer than the old. I figure the whole thing will cost me about $20 when I am done! :D
I thought 3" was the only manufactured body lift. Who sells body lifts, what sizes are available, and how hard would it be for me to make my own body lift, and how would I go about doing it? Thanks.

Here ya go. I ordered replacement blocks. They come in 1,2, and 3 inch.
Just count the number of body mounts you have and get that many blocks. Go to an implement or hardware store and get the bolts in the proper length and ya got yourself a body lift kit.

Yeah, just like dave said I went with the 3" though. Just bought the pucks at 4wheel parts and buy the hardware locally. Easy and cheap

i gotta custom fabbed up fan dangled thingey that my good buddie tad made me. that i have yet to pick up, along with my other parts. oh ya its a 2" kit made from????????
Tuck,
I made Midnightwagon's out of some 2", .120 wall square tube. Cut up a bunch of cubes, drilled square thru the centers, then boxed one end to keep them from crushing.
Edit: Just to be clear.
Those of us with older rigs have some really small body mounts, this might not work on newer rigs. Not sure what the ones on a '72 look like. Ours are just these 2" diameter circles about 3/4" thick.
The one's from 4wheelparts can also be cut down in a radial arm saw, that's what Ole Mud & Guts did when he decided he didn't want the full 3" they sent him.

I hear you get more body flex with a body lift and it is worse the higher you go. I noticed I have a couple of bumpers on my frame too. Any reason why I couldn't add a few more bumpers when i lift my body?

I did my body lift with hockey pucks. 2" = 20 pucks $20, bolts $20. I placed an 1/8" alum washer on top and bottom of each stack to keep body/frame from digging into them. Ride is actually smoother now.

5 mounts per side, puck is 1". 2 pucks per mount = 20.

Dont do it!!!!!! Until you have at least 4 days off. You're gonna find that taking out the old body mount bolts will kick your butt! Especially the two rear ones.
I have an 82 wago how many lift blocks do I nead 10?

shag your going to need 10 also if your going to fab your own body lift go with the boat rollers
they are already drilled and very strong also if you go with 3 inch then you have to drop your rad and adjust linkage as well

I just did a 3" body lift. I used PBblaster, even on the rear two. I just drilled two small holes (easy). I shelled out $100 for the Performance Accesories kit, then I spent $15 on BOLTS that weren't long enough.$20 for a welder to hack my trans linkage in half then weld a spacer in the middle (he cot down some 1/2" round stock on a lathe instead of using the one that came with the kit(too small 3/8").He also gave me big washers so the poorly molded extenders wouldn't cut into my body mounts or body (worse).
Anyway its good now but I would NOT get the PERFORMANCE ACCESORIES kit.

Is there a point at which the body lift gets more involved, like with a spring lift - 4" requires a drop-pitman arm, 6" and pinion angle needs to be addressed, etc.
If I do a 1" body lift, can I avoid the linkage and radiator issues? How about 1.5"?

I think you could get away with 2 inchs without having to alter anything

The trans linkage just depends on how much adjustment is left. 2" on a TH400 in a 1970 with a 1985 steering column was really close, so I extended it anyway, just to have the adjusment to play with.

Seen this at 4wheel parts:
NOTE: We will not sell body lift kits to any customer who is going to or has installed any suspension lift kit. The manufacture does not recommend its product to be used with a suspension lift.
What the hell is up with that!!!!

Adam, It's just their disclaimer so that if you get too tall and fall over they have no liability.
Almost every non oem company has some form of disclaimer for their product hidden away in the fine print.
My favorite is the roll bar people...
"Warning, for cosmetic use only, will not offer appreciable protrection during roll over incident"
...or something to that effect smile.gif
i installed a 3" body lift im mine ,,and found the the steering coloum was now at to sharpe of angle at the steering box,,,,,and that i began ripping out rag joints when on the trail ,,,
i fixed thos problem by eleminating the rag joint and goin to a daul u/joint lower shaft
