Okay, I have my cab now... It's a 79 and so is my Cherokee... I just need to repair (or replace) the floor and it's ready to go. So my questions are:
1. Who has done this? I know someone here has...
2. What do I need to know BEFORE I start?
3. The the body mounts be close enough that I don't need to do anything special?
4. Will the steering bolt up the same?
Anything you can think of, please let me know...
thanks,
Scott

1) a friend of mine has done it
2)truck cabs are heavy smile.gif
3) the core support mounts, and the cab mounts all lined up with mody mount brackets on his wag frame. in his case it was a 77 j20 cab onto a 79 wag frame.i think he did use his complete 79 wiring harness, cause the 77 originally had prestolite ignitin, and different alternator, and different fuse block. id think that using both a 79 cab and frame, you can prolly use the wiring from the cab,and plug the rear part of the wag harness into it,for tail lights and such
4)steering will bolt up just the same.
after the cab is on ,,,,how much frame is left exsposed? did he put a deck on it or a cage?

I haven't really had a chance to dig in and look, but can I use the heater box and core from my Cherokee in the J-truck cab?
Is the master cylinder the same?
Oh yeah, picture the truck Sycho15 posted with a small bed made of expanded metal and a cage...That's the look I am going for. The bed won't even be remotely close to the tires though. I want plenty of room to flex! ;)

Yes, you can use the heater box and core, and master cylinder. The FSJs were primarily the same under hood between all the models of a similar year.

Except that if you use the stock Cherokee fuel tank, the gas cap will need to be relocated to the rear part of the bed.
A fuel cell may be in order.

Hey shred -
I'm just up the road in Lenoir. A couple of us have FSJs - 76J10, 80 Cher, 81 Cher, and 87 J10, and do "light" wheeling (Richlands, etc.), but we're working on getting in shape for Tellico, Uwharrie and maybe someday hitting an Invasion.
Not on your topic, but just thought I'd say hello.

Cool man! I didn't know any members were that close to me! Maybe we can hook up for some wheeling very soon. I mostly go with baby jeeps, 2 YJ's, 2 TJ's, and 1 CJ-7. Mostly Brown Mountain but that's gettin' old, fast. I'm looking for somewhere new to go.

Neat pic, but not even close. ;) Think more like a flat work bed made of expanded metal and some diamond plate trailer fenders from tractor supply. Only those fenders would be 12" above the tires! Then add in the rollbars, like ya see on most rockcrawlers.

Just to save $$$ I am going to keep the stock tank for now. But I don't think it'll be problem since I'll be building the bed around what I have to work with.
