Anyone running tube doors? Are they home brew are there aftermarket vendors? Did you use factory latches, etc?
Just exploring this option for now. I know that once I take the doors off, they probably will not go back on as well. This is for a trail only (albeit street legal) 78 Wag.
Thanks.

A couple guys got some chopped down doors, but I don't think I've seen any tube doors on here yet.

I plan on chopping my extra doors, and triming them to look nice. I dont know of any tube door kits out there, but they would be simple to fab for a trail only rig...

i am planning to do this before next ECI. i think it would be awesome looking. the design of the door would be easy. for me the confusing part is trying to come up with some kind of quick disconnect hinge for on road and offroad switchover.

Eric-
If you mark the edges of the hinges on the pillars then unbolt the hinge from the pillar and line up your marks when putting them back on you should be OK. I'd use a trailer plug for any wiring going to the door for a quick connect setup. If the hinge bolts are torx heads, replace them with hex heads {check height difference and if door still closes). only three bolts on each hinge, 2 you can see on the pillar and one deep in the pocket.
Should be easy to bend up some tube and weld to a spare set of hinges. Could use a gate latch to secure, but that might be a little awkward or ugly.

Goldhammer...
Why would you need any wires going to tube doors?

Was refering to the stock doors and the harness going into them, to rig a quick disconnect so he can easily switch between them. ;) He might want to mount a couple of speakers in the tubing so he can have his tunes as well!! :D :D

There is a Wag I saw for sale in NC here: http://www.nc4x4.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3102 I am currently trying to get some info and better pics (close-ups) on his tube doors. I want to know if he used the factory latch location. I am not interested if he lashed it together with bailing wire. I may be interested in the tube doors if they are decent. I know a couple fab shops in NC who could bend up custom tubing. I have seen some nice ones made up for the XJ's but nothing for FSJs, what a surprise (not).
Goldhammer, Thanks for the tips on factory door removal and trailer plug.
I have a few other projects in the que before tube doors. I may go door-less a time or two and see how I like that.
