My rear D44 is offset for the QT and I'm stabbing the D20 in it. Will I need a center input D44?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah! In Ouray, Todd made smiley faces with his axles. your rear axle will be fine with the offset, but you might need to have your drive shaft leghthened an inch or two.

i also have ruined a rear 44 housing. squished the axletubes so bad the pinion was pointing up and snappig u joints very quickly. also broke spider gears twice and an axleshaft once.

you will be fine with the slight offset rear.matter of fact, you cannot have a centered diff unless you swap in a different gas tank.

if it makes ya feel any better, the angle on my offset spicer 18 to my centered 14 bolt is prolly every bit as bad as it is with a centered 20 to an offset 44 smile.gif

I have ran a D20 and offset D44 longer than him and have never had a problem. If you have any lift it will be benificial to you to get a CV rear shaft. We both got ours from AA driveline in Phoenix for $250 shipped to our doors. The standard u-joint can handle working in one angle, but when you put both angles in the mix then there will be vibes no matter what you do, trust me. Also you will need to lengthen the driveshaft.

Iv'e got the 20 with my offset D44 rear.
It works but it's awful tight in there. I gotta split the difference between the y-pipe for the exhaust that runs under the front driveshaft and fuel tank clearance for the rear driveshaft companion flange. how are you guys who plan to run 1-ton axles in the back going to get around the fuel tank?

All above is the right info... but will enforce what PC said... I highly recommend a CV rear shaft...sorry I didn't chime in earlier...

RB,
what's the year of that bronco you pillaged for the tank? I could use that. :D

If you don't have a bodylift AND a lift... you may want to reconsider this option due to how low the tank sits after the install.

Go to my site and look at the pics on the tank page... you will see what I mean...link in sig

Yeah, I'm doing the tank as I type (after work anyway). Not too bad, actually.

Kudos to Todd for going first!!!

Another option is to move the rear axle back. This is what i'm planning on doing in order to run a dana70.

-joe pointed out a while ago and I noticed in my dana/spicer book that the part numbers for the rear dana 44 are the same for both QT and the Dana 20 tcase FWIW

my trails are tight,so if move my axle it will be forward, for better turnability. ive allready moved my front axle forward, and dont any longer WB than i have.theres a cj7 in Jp this month with a 125" wheelbase  apparently a great length for climbin 10 foot high waterfalls, but it would be significantly harder to follow the cj5s and samuris thru the trees with that long a wb ;)

on the cv shaft,id hafta agree, sometimes i forget everyones rig isnt like mine redface.gif with only 4" of suspension lift and the low output on the spicer 18,my rear driveshaft is still darn near horizontal :D with the d20 and lift, youll definately benefit from the cv shaft, specially if you drive it at highway speeds. mine never gets goin that fst under its own power, only on the towbar and then the d shaft aint spinnin

sundowner, you got a FSJ? or are you wantin a big gas tank for your cj ;)

The rear shackle inversion is going to put my rear pinion under the corner of my fuel-tank. I'm going to have to install a bumpstop to keep it from contacting the fuel-tank, I think.
