When they unloaded they had the usual know it alls come up and tell him that it would sink as soon as he got off the parking lot because the sidewalls in the tries were to hard. From what I was told Guy spent the entire day following them where ever they went till he got tired of how slow they were and passed them.

Chain drive is how they set it up so it could be center steered. If you look up cheap in the dictionary you'll find a picture of the guy they built this for. Before anybody gets upset remember this is designed to run on closed course as a tuff truck. Yea it is kinda rusty it needs to be brought in cleaned up and painted like I said the guy it was built for was cheap. I need to get Bart on and let him tell the stories about Kemp.

The honcho will eat ATV's in the dunes and flat out spank a rail type dune buggy in a tuff truck course. The chain does twu things, first it centers the steering wheel in the frame, since it is a single seater, and second, it gears up the ratio by 1.5:1. resulting in faster steering. The reason it is on a blazer frame, is that the J-10 frame was destroyed in tingley coleseum in Albuquerque. Some how landing on the front bumper from fifteen feet in the air, is hard on frames.
The landing destroyed the front axlehousing, snapped the main leaf on the right front leaf, thereby allowing the right axle fragment to bottom out the slip yoke, and shatter the dana 20. The fan blades tore themselves up from grinding in the dirt, and the two bottom primary tubes on the passenger side header were flattened all the way to the collector. It was loaded on the trailer with a backhoe. About the only things salvagable was the 401, the T-18, and a few body panels. We started the teardown on febuary 1st and took 2nd place in a tuff truck race in Los Lunas NM Sometime in May. There was less than $1,000 spent on the entire truck. After Kemp graduated from New Mexico Tech, He gave the truck to me. Right Now it is patiently waiting for me to put a clutch in it.

Ever looked at a FSJ RHD converstion?
Maybe one of our UK/OZ members could snap a photo. I have seen one done via a chain drive.
Not sure if this was standard.

Hey rob look through your schools archives Kemp went to school there and used to be a major player in the spring fling mud bog. There used to be pictures of it on the web site. I just checked he used to have a web site at the school but it is no longer there.

That is a very cool truck!
And yes, the RHD FSJ's sometimes used a relocated box, and sometimes used the chain-drive setup. There's nothing wrong with that setup at all, especially for a dedicated off-roader.
