View Full Version : Where to attach tie rod on high steer arms?

Ive got the poison spyder arms, that have 5 holes so you can adjust placement of the tie rod. I am going full hyrdo and was thinking that the outer holes on each side, would give the ram more leverage. It seems like some one said put the tie rod as close to the knuckle as possible, but that would seem to make the push more on the edge of the knuckle instead of out away where there would be better leverage? Just thinking.

The more leverage it has, the more stress its gonn put on the arm, right? I don't know how probably it is for it to get bent or anything.... I would think with full hydro you would be fine on the inside hole, but i guess wait for somebody more knowledgable to chime in

As long as everything lines up, put it on the outermost holes. You want the leverage.

This will put less stress on the ram and its mounts, and more importantly, the tierods and their ends. The closer you move it to the knuckle the faster your steering gets. The arms are plenty strong.

You want control, slower steering = better.

If you have any doubts, you could always call PS.

torque= forcex distance

Longer lever arm (ie further away from the knuckle) more torque

More torque easier to steer, but probably easier to break as well

I have no constructive input, I am just trying not to work.

Do you have any chicken pictures?

First thing you need to do is measure the stroke on your ram. It may be that the farthest hole out wont allow a tight enough turn, or that the closest hole will be too short for the travel of the ram which could cause some damage when the ram continues to try and keep pushing somethings gonna break. Gotta figure which'ns gonna screw with your turning radius, bump stops.

I doubt placement (as long as steering functoins correctly) is going to break an arm, stud, maybe?

Dennis i have the same arms that you do. try to put the tie rod in the farthest hole you can from the nuckle.

I called poison just for calling sake, and he said that with full hydro, I would not need the extra leverage. And said that going out too far, with that much hydro power, could sheer off the 8 grade bolts that hold it to the knuckle. I guess I'll stay where Im at. Dennis
