i wasnt exactly sure if this shold go here or in general discussion, but i figured what the heck and put it here since it has to do with roll cage mods smile.gif

ive got my fenders and core support off to gain acess to the frame and front bumper to do some beefing up,since the winch is exerting some extra leverage on top of the front bumper.

ive got a solid plan what i want to do to beef up the bumper, but im also going to run the bars out from the center part of my cage. the cage will hold the batteries, starter solenoid,ig modules, and al the stuff that originally lived on the inner fenderwell. the innerwells will be easily removeable to gain access to the engine compt. im also going to set it up to use a gm crossflow radiator.

at this point im plannig on keeping the fenders and part of the core support for cosmetics, however that may change. ;)

im wondering if anyone hs any pics or links of the front portion of the cage/engine compt. they dont have to necccessarily have to be FSJ,any make model or tube chassis buggy pics are welcome smile.gif

just want to look at some pics and see if they spark any ideas.i had a solid plan with the rear, but im havin alittle trouble getting an idea exactly how i wnt the front to look...

Hey Scotty it sounds like your rig is evolving into somekind of "Madmax" post-apocalyptic dirt shredding piece of steel.......I LIKE IT! :D

Somewhere I've got some pics like you are talking about...just gotta find them.

Scotty, here a pics of competition buggies that competed just last weekend up past knoxville in Jellico. I went to the event it was INCREDIBLE. If you can't get ideas from these boys then you can't get any ideas ;) Hope this helps

Hehe, well I've wheeled with some of these guys at Tellico before and honestly they have to hang with me, but on their turf I would get eaten alive. It's two totally different types of trucks. Hardly anyone is fullwidth, medium wheelbase and VERY lightweight is key, and a t-case that can shift independantly so that you can make tight turns is key as well. Honestly, my truck's tire width alone was more than could fit through some of the gates. A CJ5 would have trouble navigating these courses they are so tight. But it's incredible to watch. I got the pics up.

excellent! thanx for the links. i didnt really get to spend anytime on it with the welder today, but i did take several minutes to give it a good hard look.one idea ive got is to run the bars along the lines of the center part of the hood, relocate the bateries to the rear of the engnie compt, and possibly lose the corners of the hood and the fenders. a friend brought me a gm radiator, and its gonna fit real nice, but ill only have room for the 19" tall variety.i did get some tubing and some scrap metal,so im ready to get started :D

i spent waaaaaaay to long disassembling the 2 14 bolts in my small trailer so i could get them out  3 of the 4 drums were frozen  and required much grinding, beating with a BFH abd a fair amt of cursing

at some point i also plan on adding some cross bars so the seats can mount directly to the cage as well. someday ill be able to remove the body completely if i want to cause everything will be cage mounted :D

andrew, one of the local places we wheel was basically cut by cjs and flatties. there are alot of spots that require multiple point turns and i only fit between the trees touching the tires on each side.its alotta fun, tho. smile.gif
