I have a 2barrel carb on my 360. It's the motorcraft 2100. I want to swap it out for something different. 2barrel is okay but not sure what to use on rock crawler. What suggestions do you have. And does anyone have one they want to get rid of?
Thanks

that 2 barrel is about as good as they get for rock crawling carbs. The quadrajet 4 barrel is another good rock crawling carb and is the poor man's fuel injection for its ability to run at angles.

Generally, the more a carb increases hp the more likely it is to have trouble running at angles. It's kind of a trade off.

Not gonna find a better/simpler 2bbl carb. If anything you may just look for a bigger 2100. The biggest they come is 1.21" That one is either a 1.08" or 1.21". It'll say on the side of the carb just under the throttle linkage.

looks like a rebuild is on order. Never done one but willing to try. Anyone know where to get carb rebuild kit.

Just take the little metal tag (that should be there) off the top/front of the carb and into the parts store. They should be able to look up the kit you need based off that number. They're gonna whine cause it's off an AMC but tell them to deal with it.

The 2100 is REAL easy to rebuild. Only about 4 moving parts in the whole thing. Just follow the instructions that come with the kit and clean everything REAL good and you should be good.

dont spray carb cleaner in the small spots. for those who have done it and ended up cursing, you know what i mean. oh and make sure the jets are clean. i rebuilt my 2150 and the first time i blew into the spout where the fuel comes from to find only one side was feeding it, so that took some soaking and vuala. the second time i forgot to check and after full assembly she ran a bit rough, so i took off the air cleaner, started it up, looked down the carb and hit the throtle to find gas comming from one side and not the other so be sure to check everything. the bolts to remove it should be 7\16 if i remeber correctly. i had to take the float out in order to get the little orange rubber peice and i used tweezers to get it. and be careful of the plastic spacer you pry at it or put it on rough and it will brake, easy but dont worry, i got one from bjs offrad, links below for a couple of bucks. trust me after endless parts searching in deer in headlights parts stores i found best service with bjs. the rebuild kit should only run you less then 20 bucks to. take lots of pics to not just to add to the scrape book and show off gloatingly with members here cause" threads are useless without them, but for when you go to put it back together it ends up together correctly the first time.

The last time I went looking for a rebuild kit it was closer to $50. The first one I did was around $25 or so and I was a bit upset when they tried to sell this last one to me for $50. Everyone seemed to want the same price though. Spose that's the way of it anymore.

if you REALLY want a better carb for rocks than a stock 2100 MC... then do a little work, find a longer throttle cable, and run you 2100 backward... that way, when you are pointing up hill, any fuel slosh is not into the barrels, and you have a better chance of not killing the engine.. although you have to be at REALLY crazy angles to make that happen..

peace,
