I have made a home brew soa conversion on my 74 j10 but when i go to mount it i will have to drill a hole in the pad that the spring sits on. So the little tab that sticks down is hex instead of round like the top if the spring ,,do i need to drill this out and put a new round one in or is this going to hod just fine?

thats the spring pin. You can get new ones at the parts house. Just remove your old ones and put in some new ones only this time put the round end on the bottom of the spring pace. Dennis

Use a couple of c-clamps on the sprig pack to hold it together and aligned before you remove the old pins. Save you a little time and headache.

You can reuse the old one. Just c-clamp it like goldhammer said and unbolt flip it around and put it back on.

i have always just made the hole on the pad bigegr so the nut fits inside of it.
it doesnt seem to cause any prollems this way,so if someone has a good reason why it should have new pins instead of making the hole bigger for the nut,id like to hear it smile.gif
done it on a couple of SOA ceonverions, and on the SUA i did using chevy springs in my jeep.

Same here, Never on a FSJ but I've done several SOA's on baby Jeeps and I do the same thing, just drill the hole so the nut will fit and bolt it down. Never a problem in doing this.

I replaced mine because I sheared off the nut side of the pin when I pulled it off. I wasnt doing anything crazy with it, it just sliped out of my hand and hit the driveway... Must have been corroded... Anyway, the new pins were only $6 for the pair... Not really a big deal...

i decided to try a wrench on it and they unscrewed with ease so i fliped them around and drilled the smaller holes instead wasn't a big deal
