Hi its that half scout half jeep guy again with more questions. I exploded my newly rebuilt turbo 400 and just dropped it off at the tranny shop today to have it fixed. Warranty covers all this but I figured since it would be out I'd try to swap in a lower range transfer case. I'm currently using a wagoneer Dana 20 and was wondering what was involved for me to switch that to a CJ style dana 300? Thanks in advance and P.S. I'd much rather be wheeling than tooling around in my Dodge 150 DJ van.

Better talk to advance adapters, I don't think they were ever mated. Jeeps w/ D300's had 727's and 904's bolted to them.

Novak adapters makes a kit: http://www.novak-adapt.com/catalog/kit_134.htm
Advance Adapters has a kit too. No specific web page for it but you can browse through their PDF catalog at their website: www.advanceadapters.com (http://www.advanceadapters.com)
It would be a good idea to get this done while the tranny is already torn apart. It'll save you a lot of money.

i was looking at this set up the other day i think if you used the adapter from a 4L80E and the out put shaft from a short shaft th375(th350 spline ) then it would work or you could have ed moser re-spline the th400 output shaft

I found the Novak adapter for 400 bucks and it includes the output shaft. Yea I'll be easy while its out. I could do a direct swap for a scout 300 but they are impossible to find. I have the wagoneer output shaft in mine now but I think they are all the same? Basically 350 to turbo 400 to wagoneer Dana 20.

go for the Novak, superior quality to the AA
Especially their sealing surface and O-rings

actually, you cannot swap the scout 300,if youre using a factory th400/d20 adapter, tailsahft and spudshaft. :(
the scout 300 will need either a 6 or 23 spline bull gear, and the factory th400/d20 is neither. the interal spline on the factory gear is 15
only way to be able to use the scout 300 would be if the th400 is equipped with an aftermarket d20 tailshaft/adapter that uses a 6 spline tailsahft. if you have to buy an adapter,it doesnt make logical sense to do it that way, youd be better off buying the adapter to fit a jeep d300,wich are much more common.
using the 4L80E adapter and resplining the shaft doesnt sound like such a terrible way to go either
if it were me,id thow that slushbox in the trash and go with an sm465 or np 435. but thats just me,i dont like autos ;)

I run the th400 and dana 300 in my wagoneer.I bought everything from performance accesories in Mississippi.I had to install a fine spline output shaft (which had to be cut,it was to long) and an aluminum extention housing (I had to drill 6 holes, because it wasn't clocked right),then I used a thick piece of steel plate to make an adapter from the extention housing to the mount. This way the mount fit the crossmember in the factory location, sorta:)
I don't think the swap is supposed to be this involved so do your research. I am very happy with the Dana300 case. I would highly recomend it as an alternative to the quadra-trac case. I don't think I would trade a Dana 20 case though. You will probably (as I did) have to modify your driveshafts as well.

Thanks for the info on the scout Dana 300. I'm glad I didn't get one and find out it wouldn't fit. I'll just save up and get the adapter and try to find a Jeep Xcase when its time. I used to own a 1970 Gladiator truck and man I miss it. I bought it out of a pasture for 400 bucks with no carb just a bare intake. It had been sitting for 10 years and It was my first 4x4. I put an old 2 bbl carb on it and poured some gas in and it fired right up. Had the Buick 350 in it. Anyway thanks again guys.
