I am wanting to swap out my dead (burnt/locked) 258 L6 out of my 1982 Wagoneer.

I know most here will cringe at these thoughts, but I am thinking about a SBC and a 700R4 or TH350 tranny with adapter to boltup to my Dana300(?) transfer case.

Second thoughts were to use a Magnum V8 from a Dodge truck with the hopes the maybe my 727 would bolt up.

Besides www.AdvanceAdapters.com, (http://www.AdvanceAdapters.com,) where are other place to shop for adapters, engines mounts, tranny crossover, etc.

Thoughts? Advice? Flames?

Bryan, assuming your 82 is stock the trans will either be a 999 if it has 2.73 axle gears or the 727 if it has 3.31's but it's a moot point I guess cause neither will bolt to a mopar motor. The trannies have AMC bolt patterns.
The t-case is either an NP 208 or NP219. If it's has a "lock" mode on the shifter it's the 219. Both are chain drive compared to the gear drive D300's offered in CJ's.
If you go Chev...use the TH400 instead of the TH350. I used to be a Chev freak till I saw the light ;) and also ran a few TH350's in Chev pickups and Blazers used for mineral exploration/geology. In all cases they'd last 60,000-70,000 and it's rebuild time. It's a great car trans or truck trans if you just go to the dump occasionally. For as heavy as these beasts are I don't think you'd be happy with it in the long run. Sure you can beef a TH350 with $$$ but why bother...just start with the 400.

Check with Novak's for adapters not much cheaper but a good product and w/o AA's "you can't live without us" attitude.

Novak also has a a little information about a Dodge 360 swap kit. Web site says "Call us if you are interested". I think it could be very "doable", change the transmission case out for a Dodge pattern case, new engine mounts, everything else stays the same. You can get a reman 360 for about $1600
