View Full Version : takes a miracle to start my car in the morning
i have to go through a process to get the rig started first time of the morning. i have to turn the motor for 5 seconds twice. then i have to pump the pedal 10 times. hopefully this will start it. this is the best way for me to do it. NOTHING else will start it. this is only the first cold start of the day. i have tried everything else. let me know what you think this could be

Tune up time? Sounds like the carb is draining dry overnight.

I had a very similar problem when I first bought my '74 Cherokee... turns out they rigged a '75 Motorcraft 4350 onto the '74 4300 intake manifold....the patterns are completely different, it was amazing that it would actually run as good as it did! tongue.gif

Could be a rupture in the accelerator pump diaphragm or a bad power valve allowing fuel to leak out overnight. Also check that the oil is not being thinned by fuel which would indicate a bad fuel pump and will lead to bigger problems.

yep, i'd try a carb kit and a good tune up.
Mine did that. The carb was draining overnight.

Mine behaved similarly a couple of years ago, and when I pulled the accelerator pump found that the neoprene (?) had started flaking off the fabric. New acc. pump and it was one pump and fire it up.
i was trying to avoid a rebuild. the carb is a holley rebuilt 2150 but it sat on a shelf for 6 or more months after the car was parted out. had a few thousand miles on it. i gues i will look into replacing the acc pump and PV. thanks
