Hello,
This is something I've been thinking about for quite a while... Would it be possible to cut/rotate a front D44 and put it in the rear? I was thinking of something along the lines of a second steering box/ PS pump that could be locked when driving on the road. Any ideas?

um.... I think you'ld be better setting up a hydraulic ram setup like the Rock Ram... pricey at $800-$900

Very do-able though.....

Why "lock" it? Full time 4 wheel steering
 Front turns left..rear turns right... just make sure the bits in the middle dont break ;)

How about putting a rod with a couple of universal joints (with as little backslash as possible), and possibly some gearing in between, going to a rear mounted power steering box? I could gear the rear steering to 1/2 that of the front, and that should greatly increase my turning radius. Besides, there is not enough room in my wheelwells for the tires to turn and articulate fully. Any ideas?

Ford made a rig (Ford [sic] Jeep) that steered with all four wheels in 1941. There are supposed to be 4 remaining. This is according to my Jeep Illustrated Buyer's Guide on page 19.
Would'nt it be nice to find one and be able to see what you would need to do your rig?
Good Luck

In the road, front turn left and rear turn left to but in a smaller angle, like Honda Prelude or Citroen ZX, but if you turn at top of front steering the rear turn at the other side, this is for parking.

There's a new truck out that has rear steering. I think it's a GMC Denali. Also, check the pirate board they might have info.

There have been a few cars in recent years with 4 wheel steering. All the VR4 cars have 4 wheel steering. But they do not turn at the sam intervals. With most the rear turns 5-6% of what the front turns,, any more and the car becomes undrivable at anything over 20mph.

So having a lock when on the street would be a VERY good thing, I would even advise a kotter pin of sorts to hold it in place until you need it.
