Has anyone else heard of doing a doubler setup with a NV241 and a round bolt pattern NP205 with a 32 spline input? A guy I talked to a while back said that he was going to run this in his rig. At the time I was just looking for any transfer case besides a Quadra Trac. Now that I have a round pattern NP205 with a 32 spline input, I was thinking that if it's feasible then I might look into this doubler set up just to prolong the project Chief a little more. I'd rather do it before I build driveshafts and such since I'm on a budget. Anyone know what I'm talking about or was this guy full of it? I don't know much about NV241s. Scotty and FSJeeper, I know you guys are like drivetrain encyclopedias.

Thanks,
Will

I have the round pattern NP adapter on my NP205, but with the Doubler from ORD, you take the adapter off the tcase and bolt it directly to the ORD adapter on the modified NP203 GRB. ORD design drills the round NP203 bolt pattern into the front of the NP203 GRB and put a 32 spline input shaft into it. For me, it was way cheaper to just buy a rebuilt GRB with the NP bolt pattern machined into it and doubler adapter installed.

I do not see how you could use both a NV241 and a NP205 unless the NP205 was a divorced case. You would use the NV241 behind the NP203 GRB with the ORD doubler.

are youl refering to using the 241 behind the 203 instead of a 205? if so i dont have anything to add to fsjeepers reply.

if you are talking about making a crawler box out of the 241 planetaries and using the 205 behind that, yep, thats possible too.not sure what it woukd take exactly but it is possible.if you do a search over at pirate, there is some good info there about home made crawler boxes made from aluminum transfer cases, wich is bout the only good thing an aluminum transfer case id good for ;) tongue.gif

Thanks guys. You two really know your stuff. I'll take a look over on Pirate and see what I can find. I think he was talking about using the planetaries from the 241 to make a crawler box. Guess I know what I'm doing when I get back from work.

Ok, so I've been searching and can't really find out the info that I'm looking for. Does anyone know if NV241s ever had 32 spline inputs? Does anyone know how the size and spline count for the planetary output that drives the chain? Anyone have an exploded view of a NV241?

Thanks,
Will

a search for "crawler box" turned up someting like 312 results, most of wich were in toyota talk. seems those guys add a crawler box more than anyone ;) anyway, here are a couple of the highlights from the 1st 16 pages. i cant look anymore cause i got a headache from the black background and green writing  hopefully theyll get ya started

im pretty sure that a 241 could be found with a 32 spluine input, maybe behind the 4L80E. otherwise it will prolly have 28 spline in a gm application.

Thanks Scotty. Doesn't really sound like anyone's done exactly what I'm talking about. I think I'll just try to get the thing on the trails first and then see if I can scare up a 241 relatively cheaply and pick it apart and see what I can come up with.
