We are home and waiting until it cools to unload any more than the ice box. What a week! We rolled in Wednesday around 4:30 and got set up by the pond in the KOA. Roadgrime & FlatbackDragon was already set up. No sign yet from the Stoney Pass group from down south. The pond is not a bad setup especially if you can get all FSJs in there. Long story short... <is that possible?> We had a great time and fellowship was wonderful with all the attendants.

I had overheating problems right away on Thursday when we all went up to Maggie and Minnie Gulch to shake down rigs for the adventures ahead. The temp hit 250 3 times before we got it under control. J10/J20Project provided a new 16lb. rad cap to replace the 9lb. Roadgrime provided a much needed fan clutch for my 401 and saved my Great Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley MoogleyGreat Googley Moogley. THANKS Chris! THANKS Paul! Raider had a fuel return line issue. Also the starter solinoid got stuck and Bill couldn't shut off the 360 until the leads were removed. Then it started working fine again. Back at camp in the evening, RoadGrime had a mini wrenchathon to find out why he was running rough at lo rpm. Changed the wires after we saw all 4 on the right side appeared to not be firing properly. We went all around looking for vacumn leaks and the right rear carb bolt had a small one. Nothing anywhere else. Took the top of Edelbrock off and checked everything there. Just could not find it. I think Chris needs to try another carb to see if that may show something. I think there was some drinkin goin on in AZSteve, ColeTrickle and Hiemeken's camp that night...

On Saturday, we had a mini wrenchathon on ColeTrickle's Honcho. The vacumn shifter on the QT was not working. (again... remember the post on his Black Bear run with the CJ guys in 2Lo last year?? ;) ) Turns out, the spring was broken on the rod shift holder ball bearing. So we used a remedy I had used on Phoebe once. We made a wood wedge and pryed it in behind the shift fork and capped it back up. YAH, 4WD! Then most of us made a run over Imogene Pass and back around thru Ophir Pass back to Hwy 550. Brewman and his daughter went to run Black Bear in the TJ. We got to the top of Imogene and rain & thunder was all around us, but we got a few minutes to stop and take pix without threat of being struck by a thunderbolt or getting soaked. So, I been waiting 4 years to have my rig truely capable of running to 13114 feet! My own 401 on Imogene Pass! Yay Hoo! The rain and cooler weather made it much easier to prevent overheating and/or vapor lock. On the way down, we met Brewman coming back over Imogene from the Black Bear run. Ophir Pass was more beautiful than I remember on any other trip. WAY MANY FLOWERS! I think there was some drinkin goin on in AZSteve, ColeTrickle and Hiemeken's camp that night... ;)

We took Bones up for the memorial yesterday at Yankee Boy Basin. This group was all FSJs (12) and the weather was awesome with some showers and a fine but sad send off was made for Bones the Wondermutt, dog of many FSJ trail rides and more... <sniff> The task was not easy. :( So, now he resides up high to chase picas and marmutts. Some of the guys and gals went up aroun by Engineer Pass down to Animas Forks and on the Silverton after. 4x4CherokeeinColorado had a motor mount break and dented his newly painted hood. Don S had some ignition problems that got remedied near the end of the return. Now it is wired with a toggle switch for the coil power and Ralph took care of ignition linkages and steering wheel lock. I think there was some drinkin goin on in AZSteve, ColeTrickle and Hiemeken's camp last night... ;)

Thanks Carey. A pleasure to get to meet and wheel with you, your family and your Cherokee!

We have good colors this down this way anywhere from mid September to mid October. We'll keep an eye on it and try and figure a good time to go. Ophir is probably a good place to start! :D

Well, I just got home 10:30 and my XJ off the trailer. It died on me about 3 miles outside Bailey. 45 min. from home. :( That just was a little hint to bring the J-Truck next year. I think my crank position senser went out no spark at the plug. So I called a friend and he brought up a trailer.
What a great and Unforgetable trip. One vacation I will remember for a long, long time.
I'll write up more and post up my pics. For some reason those 3:30 nights are catching up.

Thanks for the GREAT time Everyone.

Paul

We had a blast! I just got in about an hour ago. Little later than scheduled... rough morning smile.gif

Turns out I broke the right front shock mount on Engineer. I couldn't figure at a clunking noise until I was re-connecting the sway bar this morning. Pretty interesting driving million dollar highway with 3 shocks smile.gif

Pics coming soon.

BACK IN THE DESK SADDLE.

The Family had a great time in Ouray for the Reinvasion. I have to thank everybody that my family and I met for their help and hospitality. And for the most excellent Cactus Squeezin's.

I will try and update with more pictures and so fourth when I have a opportunity.

Other than some exhaust leaks needing some repair it appears my truck is doing fine. Had to do a tad of Mule deer dodging on the way home.
I need to get my computer back from the shop it was in for repair while I was in southwest Colorado.(motherboard deep 6, replacing)

Oh I also find that instead of a hunter gatherer I am a reciept gatherer and I am going through checks and balances.

Once again thanks to all that attended.

J10/20 P,
Glad to hear to made it back successfully.

I guess Engineer was hard on everyones rig.. It was a lil rough, uh? Maybe if we would have took all the easy spots instead of looking for the hard spots we would have fared better. Oh well it was lots of fun!

Your rig is awesome dude!!

I think those shock mounts are prone to breaking. I had to weld up one last year and I actually welded up the other the day before i left for ouray as it had broke while i was out shaking down the rig. I just forgot about that work till i read your post. but its usually and easy fix ;)

It amazes me how these guys could get behind me so quick-like with there "arm twisting" skills...

I had a great time and just wished we had more of it.

Thanks again for the wedge and the idea. Like I may have told a few...I believe I may have a new "pick-up" line
for the ladies...

Just to clarify ... I actually found the license, and once Kenny saw her picture and birthdate (1978) he couldn't wait to trade me a transfer case for it. Right Mr. Trickle?

And after the French girl he met on the way to Imogene stood him up, he may need a few new "pick-up" lines. ;) tongue.gif :D

The broken shock mounts looks like a stress/fracture break. It is the second time I break that same mount but many moons ago when I had 33s and 3" lift. I think it was gradually breaking and finally clunked out at Silverton just after I aired up. I went to take a look but didn't see anything obvious since the shock was sitting in the right place. Oh well.

BTW I think Kenny likes girls who drives Lexus' SUVs better than French girls.

Drooool, Droool, Drooool.

What a great time and absolutely beautiful vistas!!!

Ah, back in Tucson just in time for a little monsoon activity. Coming down from Colorado and passing by the turnoff to the San Juan River made me want to just turn around and start all over again. What a great trip. I’ll post some pics later. Glad everyone is getting back even in pieces.

Kenny, as long as you keep saying things like that last statement you will remain the King of the whipping posts! Matt is still in training. But I suspect you enjoy the position so much that you'll have a hard time passing the torch! tongue.gif
