ignition problems

I have a 73 Jeep J series truck. Having never owned a jeep, I know nothing about them. When I bought it, it was in pieces. My problem is the ignition. I ran power to the + side of the coil. The negitive side went to the green wire on the control module. The 3 wires coming from the module went to the distributor. Then the two wires on the module(White and Red wires) The red went to power and the white to ground. Is this right first of all? When I done that I had no fire. I bought a new module. No luck still.I changed coils too. Is there a way of checking the pick up coil trigger in the distributor? What do you guys think?? Thanks for the help.

Ya might want to move this thread to the tech forum for more input.
For what it's worth a stock 73 shouldn't have what you describe. No ign module, no pickup coil/trigger etc. They came stock with a points dizzy not an electronic one.
