Anyone following my pathetic cooling saga (it's too **** hot) will be relieved to know that after new water pump and radiator I'm not budging that much from the left side of the guage.
FINALLY. PATIENCE AND BEER.
Took the day off. Did pump/hoses/rad/flush/hi-vol thermo and more.
Kept the hose in the thermo inlet (no rad) at least 5 minutes before water went brown to clear.
Went with a traditional 4-core rad. Wanted aluminum but money wasn't the issue----time was the issue. It's the hottest July on record for Phoenix and I didn't want to dicker with aluminum rad delays/modifications/back-orders. Maybe next summer.
As far as installing a water pump in a 100-degree garage? Never again. I think I bled from every finger but it was a success.
Thanks for EVERYBODY'S help----Brent

You're very welcome. That is what we are here for....not just BSing on Gen Discussion!! smile.gif
I know where you were coming form, it gets pretty hot here, especially with the humidity. When I started working on Sherman a few months back I didn't even take for him for a test drive until I did certain things. For instance: TFI, rebuild carb, change all fluids, and last but not least the cooling system. I put a new thermostat, hoses, water pump, and fan clutch in.
Then took the radiator (while doing TFI & carb) to the shop, told the guy to check it out, if it was fine, cool, if not... build me a new one. Then after I got it in I flushed the holy crap out of the engine. And one thing I do but alot of folks don't advise it, i put in a 165 degree thermostat.
Anyway, now, in the heat of the day, on the highway or in town, it just purrs in the "green." I just love that!!!! smile.gif smile.gif
Congrats & happy drivin'!!!!

Good Job Brent. Hope it keeps cool. I have a 4 core too and a 1 year old water pump. So far so good. Even with the A/C on she keeps cool.
I have been fighing a fuel pump/carb problem for the past week. It is hot as heck in the garage!
Hopefully I will be able to wrap it up tomorrow.

Brent,
Nice job, and I think that the Copper Radiator is a good choice, almost all small towns and all larger towns can service copper radiators.
Are you going with any pusher fans in the future for those slow crawl situations, like up the back of Mount Lemon Highway outside of Oracle AZ?
There is a really cool camping site near an ole mine switchback, cottonwood trees, running water and all on that road, about halfway up.
