Alright fellas--
Time for me to display some ignorance and ask about a particular piece of equipment for the Motorcraft 4350 carburetor I am rebuilding. As I was cleaning the Vacuum Piston Cylinder (as identified in Haynes), I noticed a rubbery looking piece of string which I suspect was a gasket or O-ring of some kind within the sleeve. If it is, then where exactly does it go?? The interior bottom of the sleeve? Or on the bottom of the vacuum piston rod??
In Haynes, it is, I think, identified as an o-ring. I just want to be sure of this before I totally screw this up. This is the **first** time I have rebuilt anything like this. Thanks!!

I haven't rebuilt a 4350 but there is a gasket under the the Vacuum Piston Cylinder. I doubt it's an o-ring though. My guess would be it's a hard fiber washer type gasket.

An O-ring fits in a groove near the bottom of the vaccum piston. That o-ring is required to properly seal the piston in the sleeve. At the bottom of the vaccum piston sleeve (the part the piston slides in), where the sleeve screws into the float bowl there should be a small fiber washer.

Hope this helps.

1LOBO...when you finish putting the 4350 together check the top gasket for leaks. the lids can warp, leak and cause fires. ....Mine now makes a perfect paper wht............ smile.gif ....ds..

Thanks for the quick replies, fellas.
Still haven't pieced everything together. The rubber o-ring I bought seems rather thick for the job--gonna have to hunt around some more (**SIGH**). I will keep a look out for potential warpage--thanks for the heads up. You are all correct about the fiber washer on the bottom, by the way. The o-ring is the problem, but now I know for sure where it goes, right?? ;)
