Details are formulating on this web site: 2005 Ouray ReUnInvasion (http://gobrainstorm.net/~mystkblu/05ouray)
We would like to get in 3 days of trail rides together, so please plan to be in Ouray by the 13th. We'll start riding the San Juan Mountains together on the 14th.

Other lodging is available in the area. More information on that here: Ouray Lodging (http://www.cfsja.org/2002/planner/lodging.html)

The discounts on the link above referred to the 2002 FSJ Ouray Invasion and do not apply for this gathering.

http://www.gobrainstorm.net/~mystkblu/05ouray/koa_ouray.jpg

Our plans right now are to take the whole week off and stay at South Mineral Creek area near Silverton until we check in site 47 at KOA on Wednesday, the 13th. See y'all there! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Flint, the website was an excellent idea.
For those of you who haven't been to the KOA yet, 47 thru 50 will likely be the quieter camping sites. If you're bringing your family or early bedtimes are important to you, reserve one of those. 47d may likely be the late night campfire-burning, story-telling, beer drinking, tequila-shooting Jeep-fixin' camp site. I'll try to get that one. 47c and 47e are strategic sites which we have to get in order to keep the complaints to a minimum. smile.gif

welp guess im gonna get my reservations in this week. we are thinking bout coming up sooner than the thursday as we did this year. that way i got a day or two to fix what ever i break on the way down! gonna have to figure out if the three kids are coming with us the year or if we are gonna leave one or more with the grand parents... dont know how well the 2 year old would do running around in the "beep" for that long

RG - Flint and I are planning on going up early too. We are thinking about camping at South Mineral Creek just west of Silverton for a day or two then packing down to Ouray KOA. You guys would be welcome to join us if you want to. Anyone else that wants to come up early as well.

gwinn
10-03-2004, 04:17 AM
Yeah, I'll be coming up a few days early but will be staying at the Windham Peaks Resort in Telluride Sunday thru Wednesday (or until I lose all of my golf balls or get thrown out for cooking in my room). :D

Great web-site, Flint ;)

I too would like to see a bigger gathering, even bigger than the East coast guys. There isn't nothing better than being on top of the world in the Rockies with fellow FSJ'rs

RG - I'm gonna plan on it. I'll try to design some patterns and play with keeping them attached to the antena over winter. :D

I'm gonna do my best to make this one. Heck, I'm only about 4 hrs. away!

2002 Ouray Invasion-Went in '71 J-truck, had a blast
2003 Ouray Invasion-Missed it. had new kid that May and moved to NM that July.
2004 Ouray Invasion-Missed it. Timing conflicted with a trip to the Rubicon in the little Jeep.
2005 Ouray Invasion-Gotta be there! It's my GW's turn!

Besides, I get an additional week of vacation this year for my 10th year service anniversary smile.gif !

The G-spot? It's down where it's wet, but WAY up in there, all the way at the end and then back a little where the fire is. tongue.gif

The manager said he didn't want more than two full sizers in there at any given time(but we snuck three in anyways, it was tight, but they fit). :D

Well I have made our reservations online and only need to wait and see what happens. Having sold my last fsj, all I need to do between now and July is find a suitable jeep build it to suit me and drive it to Ouray. Guess I won't have a lot of time for surfing here unless I need parts ot help.

Welcome to the Forum!

Be glad to have you out here with the ReUnInvasion next year! Let us know when your reservations come thru and I'll post it on the map. It is great to see so many people committing this early. It would be great to have a whole bunch of folks show up! :D Maybe we should ask Dave to set aside some more KOA sites for the gathering...

We ended up in 37. Wife wanted electric and gas. Need to keep her happy as this is going to be in the middle of a two week driving vacation. Good news is that I have located several jeeps. '74 cherokee, '74 wag, '76 wag, '63 pickup, and an '81 cherokee. At the moment it looks like the '76 wag and '74 cherokee are coming home. The '76 wag is gonna be the builder due to better availability of lifts and the 4 door. I think the '63 may find a home here also... I think i'll have to start a page for this buildup. Purchase to built for Ouray. We may try to make the east coast invasion also.

This is just awesome that so many folks are comitting now! I am thinking that after next year we may need to change the name of the get together. 2006 would end up being the ReReInvasion. Sounds a little awkward. Maybe we could just shift to the 5th Annual Ouray Invasion? No need to make a decision yet, but it makes my brain hurt to think about it. :D

oldcj5guy
10-24-2004, 08:10 AM
After we pull out on the 17th we are planning on dropping down to Mesa Verde, so you guys will have to give us the heads up on where to go. We'll have our almost 3yr old (by then) son with us. We're just going to take the whole two weeks and get lost.

Krista is probably right (of course!) We should keep it simple and make it "Annual". The other way of figuring out "invasion" names hurts my head. :D I think we started with the goofy "invasion" names to be unique from the east coast variety. When we go to Ouray, it is an Invasion. ;)

turtlejoe
10-25-2004, 12:06 AM
Since the Invasion after 2006 will be the 5th anniversary, and the 5th (wedding) anniversary is "wood", maybe Kenny should coordinate the theme for the 5th Annual Invasion - seeing as how he's got wood ... :D

10-25-2004, 12:45 AM

Good news! I just bought the KOA.

The bad news is that I'm cancelling all reservations. This town could do with a few less tourists!

Especially those dang big-Jeep folks and their greasy rigs, loud parties, and oversized "White Man's" campfires!

Okay, just kidding. See y'all when you get here

Bill Thomas (aka "Raider") and family are coming here today, to spend a few days putting around on their ATV's. They're staying with me. I'm looking forward to taking them up to Red Mountain Pass tonight to view the lunar eclipse.

It took several months to get over Bones passing. We felt much better about it all after we did his memorial this year at Yankee Boy. So, in August, Krista found a rescue. It is amazing how much she looks like Bones, then doesn't. Like the one blue eye. That is the evil eye... :D Her pictures here: http://www.frontier.net/~mystkblu/luna/

heimekin if you see a big guy with his thumb out next year on the way thru pic him up :D LOL! No Sambo.... it's just that it's taken us 4 years to figure out that if we want the good spot at the KOA we have to register early! We haven't got a large learning curve! ;) Flint and I have had such a good time living on little parcels of dirt for a week with people we don't know who drive Full Size Jeeps that we really enjoy doing it year after year. Actually, we've really begun to "know" some of the folks on the list and actually like them. :D I love wheeling huge caravans of old steel through the mountains but for me the best part is the fellowship that happens at the campground. That is why we made the effort to get all the sites in one spot for next summer. Some folk (Don S) will chose to luxuriate in a hotel (too good for us ground sleepers). ;) But the rest of us will create a little community that is hard to describe..... just read some of the past ouray threads to get an idea. I think there was some drinkin going on that night...... :D :D :D

Cool, it looks like the southwest corner of the KOA is now "Big Jeep" territory. We do have to hold it. If one of us has a site reserved and for some reason feels they won't be making the trip please let the other forum members know asap. We may have to do some shuffling to keep the corner pure FSJ.

I know how plans change. If it's not in the last 48 hours don't cancel your reservation with the KOA until we've tried to fill the camp site thru this forum. In 2002 I had everything ready to go 2 weeks before the Invasion when a disaster hit my plant and all plans went out the window. Luckily my campsite went to another FSJ'er. Later on next Spring we'll probably start a topic thread just for last minute shuffling of camp sites.

Next year we are gonna take enough time off from the park to enjoy packing up, take a few days for our selves, and then head down to KOA for the Event. I think I want to take a few days off AFTER too to get back in the "go back to work" frame of mind. So if anyone wants to hang at the farm before heading home, or come up early and get a few days of camping in, just let us know!

Folks pull out on both Sunday and Monday. I'd guess that more people would set out for home on Sunday, but in past years people have stayed through to Monday. Depends on when you have to be back at work! :D

For the cabin dwellers who have not stayed in one before, the cabins come with an indoor overhead light as well as a porch light, and a couple of electrical outlets inside. The indoor outlets are really handy for charging phones, cameras, etc., but most importantly for coffee in the morning!

There's a queen bed on one side, and bunk beds on the other. The "mattresses" are kind of thin, but comfortable enough. We brought a medium thick blanket to put between the mattress and our sleeping bags and it worked out quite well.

Know this is drifting the topic, but whatdahey... We have been having a lot of problems with rats building nests in the vehicle engines at work. It has already cost thousands in repairs. They typically end up chewing some wire and disable the vehicle. I have never seen this before, but only been here 3.5 years. I think it tells me that winter is gonna be colder this year. There has been significant migration of mice and rats into homes around here too. We have 5 cats but they must get fed too well tho because we hear "stuff" in the walls here a lot. :D So far, our estimate is about 18" of snow has fallen at our place since the first drop in Nov. The last 3 winters we prolly only had a few inches by now and a range of 36 to 42" all winter. I am told that 10-11 years ago there was a 6' drop in one storm and this area was pretty much closed down for a few days. They had over 9' that winter. Geeezuz...

OK, I'm interested. However my 74 J-10 is stock. I'm talking 235/75/15's here. What kind of trails are we talking about? I'm hoping to have my T'all done soon however parts are a *****. If I don't have a trail rig done by the time of the event are there some gravel or dirt roads to run down?

fulsizjeep
12-24-2004, 02:10 AM
Bring the J10! Almost all the trails are 2 track and I have seen totally stock FSJs run them all except for Poughkeepsie. In 02, I followed a 91 final edition on the drive up by Engineer Pass and back around to Animas Forks. He stuffed the wheels pretty good a couple times but ran with the big dogs. The roads are not particularly hard, just the altitude that usually kicks some FSJ butts.

2MANY4X'S2FIX
12-24-2004, 02:47 AM
Sounds like a plan, can you adjust carbs for altitude? I'm a little rusty on how to do that. If I get the Travelall buttoned up I'll bring that, I guess I can flat tow the Jeep behind it.

ColeTrickle
12-24-2004, 03:37 AM
Travy!?! Shoot load up the J10 and lets go!

We go right through Jacksboro each time I've went. Plus with Don S leading the group in his 401 powered Wag I'm not to sure we'd slow the pace for ya ;)

Oracle did most trails in a stock GW that he had only bought days earlier. He made a few pit stops on the way but after that we were good to go. He even made it over spots where I had witnessed numerous other heavily modified Wags fail.

Heck, 2nd year I went, I was in 2wd low the whole time. Even over Black Bear.

Now after wrenching with one of our FSJ doctors I got "wood" and am absolutely unstoppable...I think ;)

There are more pix of Caterpillar on the 03 & 04 Ouray sites linked at the bottom of the 05 Ouray web site (http://www.frontier.net/~mystkblu/05ouray/index.htm) too. It is still in original brown sans wood in the 03 pix.

1/1/05 Update - 19 KOA sites confirmed reserved. KOA sites previously held are now open to who ever reserves first. Y'all are now on your own to get a spot at KOA. There are plenty other lodging options too. The Timberidge has a decent campground and there is a nice one at the Amphitheater which is on USFS land above Ouray.

as of now im planing on coming...Unfortunately "our" section was only being held until x-mas. What the best thing to do now is contact the KOA and let them know you're with the FSJ Invasion and to reserve you a campsite as close as possible to the southwest side of the campground. More than likely there will be cancellations so maybe if you ask the campground to move you into "our" section if a spot opens up, they might accomodate. Everyone who is currently reserving the southwest campsites is asked to please post to this forum immediately if they have to cancel their trip so we can shuffle to hold our ground.

Don’t know if I can pull this off but our plans are to make a trip out west this year. First head up to Mount Rushmore then on to Yellowstone. From there down through Flaming Gorge NP, then over to Craig, Co. to check out where I elk hunt. Then I would like to make the 2005 Ouray FSJ ReUnInvasion for a day or two, from there on to the Grand Canyon and then head for home. I know that is a lot of miles but that is the best way to see the country, I will try to stuff this into 2 weeks, we will see. I don’t think I can afford feeding The War Wagon on a trip like this so I will be in my F-350 diesel. I really hope we can pull this off as this will be the first vacation my wife and I have taken in a while. Hope I will see everyone there.

Still no site location. Don't want to bother him again so we will just find out when we get there. 7/11-7/14 will be leaving Sat by noon for that wonderfull 900mile drive home.

Just updated site again showing 20ozjolt and some other folks who probably won't be settled in at KOA. I am having some Mexican coffee this morning and getting myself all in a tizzy over this year's gathering. Sure be good to see the RB crew again Todd!

Snow is hanging in here too. It has been a very wet winter and mountains are currently at 110-125% of 30 years average. There should be some awesome flower displays in July if it keeps up like this.

I have my sons 77 Ford Bronco finished (efi 302), my daughters 81-CJ-7, and another friend with an 86 GMC JIMMY (don't worry his 82 Wagoneer was recently totaled) so he is at least there in spirit. I seen this on pirate4x4 and thought you guys might be interetsed.

On the 29th of this month, the San Miguel County Commissioners may close Imogene, Black Bear and Ophir passes to ATV/Dirt Bike users. Knowing the players as I do, there very well could be a move to ban ALL OHV's within a year.

So, if you really care about 'wheeling, send an email to Art Goodtimes artg@sanmiguelcounty.org voicing your opposition to this ban with a copy to the Telluride Daliy Planet reporter covering the story, debdion@hotmail.com.

Well I finally said to the wife "sh#t or git off the pot, I need to get reservations made!" redface.gif Needless to say, I'll be going solo again this year. Made internet reservations @ KOA, but haven't yet recieved confirmation. I requested a tent site in the 47-53 area where the fullsize Jeep gathering is, hopefully there are still spaces available.

Anyhoo, now need to decide what FSJ to take. Do I go in comfort in the GW on its maiden voyage to a fullsize Jeep gathering in Ouray? Or do I go for "coolness factor" in the J2000 and attempt redemption on Poughkeepsie gulch that became my nemisis in 2002? Decisions, decisions......

I have always driven through Alb. Fastest way for me is to go through Cuba, Aztec, Durango... Last year I went up to Santa Fe to Alamosa to meet the east Texas guys to do stoney pass, but it may not pan out this year. I'm flexible to either driving up all they way Tuesday or meeting up with you on Wed. morning. Even going by Flint's is open to me. I'd love to see the ruins in Mesa Verde. I guess we'll see as it gets closer.

I'll be taking 550 through Cuba as well. I'm only about three miles to the turn off. I had planned on leaving the house about 8 am, putting me in Ouray about 12ish. Your about 4.5-5 hrs from the 550 turn off aren't you?

Quinn - Call the KOA and see if you can get 52a since Rick (20ozjolt) is cancelling. David (chevelleguy) is also cancelling but did not get a site number. I am guessing he had 53, but not sure.

I am guessing that Dave (KOA owner) may be enroute back to Ouray from Florida winter travels any time now and may not reply right away, but give it a shot. I will try to get a hold of Dave this week too if that will help.

I’m getting pretty excited and worried at the same time. I’m still working on the fine details of my rig and I’ve only done a four mile test drive so far, but it rides sweet. The problem is week after week I still haven’t gotten my rims and they aren’t coming this week either. I might have to think about coming up on 33” tires, but if that’s the case I might cancel. I need to think positive, the rims are coming, the rims are coming. It’s only been eight weeks since I placed the order, the rims are coming.

uglyjeepling
06-14-2005, 08:42 AM
Whats wrong with 33's? I thought that the trails were at a level that a stock FSJ could do? ~30" tires. Am I in for a rude awakenin with 33" on a stock platform WT Cherk.

Your rims are coming!

viscacha
06-14-2005, 09:09 AM
I wasn’t implying that anyone needs large tires for most of the trails around Ouray. Vacuum lines, carburetion, and the rest of the fuel system are the important things to have working properly. My 33” mtr’s look pretty silly on the truck right now with the soa. I also lowered the diff ratio and would be revving pretty high on the highway on them.

I have 37” mtr’s just waiting for rims.

I Looked at the Club Web site. It says your going to Elwood Pass and Platoro. I went though the area a couple of years ago to do the Old Military Road west of Elwood (Summitville) and it was blocked off and so was The Pass on the north side. I ended up driving down the Alamosa River.
