I have been pondering the idea of replacing my 22 gallon driver side mounted tank with a poly tank with a larger capacity in the rear under the cargo area. I took some measurements and found the below listed poly tanks to be of suitable sizes with the capacity needed.

I would prefer the 33 gal tank for the abvious reason. http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/wink.gif Straps and hardware would also be purchased, like a sending unit to work in the tank along with a compatible gauge if my factory one won't work.

33 Gallons fits 1978-1979 Ford Bronco Fullsize WITHOUT EMS hole. Vent pipe is towards the REAR of the Bronco. Dimensions 21"X31"X15" Hollander# 1102 $149.00

25 Gallons fits 1978-1979 Ford Bronco Full Size WITHOUT EMS hole. Vent pipe is towards the REAR of the Bronco. Dimensions 21"X31"X12" Hollander# 1101 $149.00

Anybody done a similar retro-fitting??? Just wanted some insight before tackling this blind.... not that I haven't done done something blind before, but others with input help TREMENDOUSLY!!!

I am wanting to do this prior to my new exhaust... will allow an easy install for dual exhaust with an "H" pipe.

So you would have a gas tank in the passenger area... enclosed...hmmm. Sounds a little dangerous.

How about moving the spare tire to a swingaway and fabing a tank in its place...?

Sorry if I misled you... the tank would be mounted "under" the rear cargo area between the frame where the spare tire "should" be.

KENALL,

The sending unit wouldn't seal...hmmm.... was this a "cut your own hole" type tank or did it come pre-molded?

I want to go steel for strength reasons but fear I won't find one for the same price as the poly... I'll start looking to ease my mind.

all the holes in this poly tank were premolded. but since the poly is so flexiable, the seals failed soon from expansion/contraction...

i looked at JCwhitney.com..the 25 and 33G steel tanks for the 78 79 bronco is 155$

i too wish to add another tank in that area...prolly the 25G version tho...

Thanks for the heads up on the Poly... you saved me... once again... and thanks for the info.. saved me from the search cuz haven't got around to it yet.

Ya think the sending unit for the Bronco tank will work with our gauge or just buy a generic one?
