View Full Version : Wheel Lug Woes

The wheel bolts that were in the front rotor/hub assembly had a 7/16"-20 thread. Two of them broke, so I went to replace them.

I went to three auto parts stores today (PepBoys, AutoZone, and Advance Auto Parts), and each of them listed bolts with a 1/2"-20 thread to fit a 1988 Grand Wag.

So, I bought 12 of the bolts they listed, and the first one I pounded in cracked the rotor and also knocked the hub assembly off of the rotor. Before I try it again with a new rotor, or even try to have a shop press them in, I figure I better be certain I have the right size.

Does anyone know what size the wheel bolts are supposed to be?

Come on, guys! Can't anyone tell me what size their wheel bolts are? Just take off a lug nut...

Geez! Sorry I wasn't waiting at my computer to answer your question instantly; besides, don't you have any other lug-nuts left on the truck that you could check? http://www.cs.colostate.edu/~zeimet/ubb/wink.gif

They are the 7/16" thread size, just like you had before.

Thanks, guys. Yesterday I got the correct part number from a dealer, and as it turns out 7/16" was correct.

PepBoys replaced my rotor and gave me a refund for the two 1/2" bolts I'd bought from them.
